The Costa Blanca sectors' business association Hosbec has published a guide of Covid protocol in English to a "avoid a season damaging rebound"
Hoteliers in Benidorm have launched a campaign to reinforce anti-Covid safety and preventive measures aimed predominantly at British holidaymakers to "avoid a rebound" that could "seriously damage the winter season".
According to the latest health data, Benidorm is in a situation of "extreme risk" with a 14-day cumulative incidence of 286 cases per 100,000 inhabitants – far higher than the Valencia region's average of 50 cases.
So, to try to stem new infections, the Costa Blanca's Hotel and Tourism Business Association, Hosbec, has published a guide detailing the protocol Benidorm's hospitality establishments must follow. The guide, in English, will make it "clear to all tourists" that facemasks must be worn, a social distance of 1.5 metres must be respected and that smoking is banned on terraces in bars, restaurants and hotels.
"One of the complications added to the management of this pandemic is that each region and country has implemented different preventive measures, and although there are currently no major differences in the measures implemented in Spain, there are differences with respect to countries such as the United Kingdom or northern Europe," Hosbec pointed out.
"it is very important to properly inform, especially foreign tourists, of the preventive measures during their stay in our establishments," added the association.
In addition to the guide, Hosbec has published posters outlining the measures in English and Spanish, also reminding that flouters face fines of up to 600 euros for non-compliance.
However, Minister for Health, Ana Barceló, admitted on Tuesday October 26 that the department is "concerned" about the increase in cases in Benidorm.
"We are concerned and we will monitor what happens in Benidorm and adopt measures if necessary to control the situation," she said at a press conference.
She also revealed that 53% of the cases detected since October 5 have been foreign citizens following a relaxation of travel restrictions.
"There have been infections amongst many nationalities, although the majority are English," added the health minister.
