The Marina Alta region in Alicante province has experienced an ongoing property sales boom over the last eight months, in spite of the pandemic, registering the highest number of purchases in 14 years.

Experts stress it's impossible to know what would have happened had Covid not gripped the nation, but confirmed the sale and purchase of homes in the Marina Alta have reached record highs in recent months.

Data on property transactions published by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda show that in the third quarter of 2021, the region saw the highest number of sales and purchases in that period since 2007 when the "property bubble burst".

And data for the previous quarter shows a similar pattern, demonstrating a clear trend of growth in the real estate market.

Between the months of July and September 2021, the Marina Alta registered 1,711 property transactions. In the last 14 years, the only time the figure has come close was in 2012 with 1,342 sales.

As can be seen in the graph, since 2010 there has been a slight upward trend in the number of sales and purchases in the region, which now seems to be accentuated.

Even so, the 1,711 transactions registered in the third quarter of last year are still below the market volume of the 'bubble years'. The historical data published by the ministry starts in 2004, when the number of transactions in the third quarter was a staggering 2,849.

In November of last year, it was revealed house sales in Alicante province as a whole had reached 2008 levels.
