ARCHIVED - Huge reduction in hospital admissions: Murcia Covid update August 2
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The positive trend continues in the Region of Murcia as all Covid indicators decline
There was some concern at the end of July as, despite the fact the daily infections have been decreasing, hospitalisations had taken a big jump upwards. While an increase in admissions isn’t altogether unusual after the peak of a pandemic wave, it is always worrying when healthcare pressure rises, particularly if this starts to translate into intensive care beds.
However, the latest data published by the regional health authorities is positive, and hospitalisations have taken a huge nosedive at the beginning of August.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered 1,207 new cases of coronavirus since the last update, 269 of which were recorded on Monday August 1, a slight decrease on the 283 infections registered in the last health report.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 449,840.
Of the total cases, 80,333 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided by the regional health authorities on Tuesday show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has dropped even further to stand at 283.49 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The average incidence over a two-week period also reflects this slowdown, decreasing significantly from 725.19 cases last Friday to 634.04.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 229 people hospitalised for Covid in Murcia, 80 fewer than in the last report from the regional health authorities, 9 of whom are being treated for more serious conditions in the Region’s ICUs, a reduction of four.
Seven more Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,377.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,094,205 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.8% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.80% of people are now double jabbed.

Total positives diagnosed in the last 24-hour period: 269
