25 AÑOS SIN TETE
Vicenç Montoliu i Massana, better known as Tete Montoliu (1933-1997), was a jazz pianist and composer and was the first of our jazz musicians to transcend the borders of Spain, achieving international fame and prestige.
With a role in the Spanish jazz scene similar to that played by Martial Solal in France, Tete played with many of the greats of his day, such as Bobby Hutcherson, Ben Webster, Lucky Thompson, George Coleman, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, Kenny Dorham and Roland Kirk, and his discography is a real treasure.
San Javier Jazz has the honour of presenting the national premiere of this project, led by another great figure of Spanish jazz, the brilliant pianist Chano Dominguez from Cádiz. Chano was the winner of the 2005 San Javier Jazz award and he is joined on stage by some of the musicians who accompanied Tete himself, including Horacio Fumero, his faithful double bass player for more than 20 years, drummer David Xirgu and saxophonist Eladio Reinon. A special guest appearance is made by the great Catalan singer Carme Canela.
The repertoire is based on a rereading of the pieces that Tete himself used to play in his concerts, ranging from his own songs to pieces by his favourite musicians such as Thelonious Monk, Dexter Gordon and Duke Ellington, without forgetting the personal sympathy that the Catalan musician felt for the bolero and the compositions of his friend Joan Manuel Serrat.
VINTAGE TROUBLE
This is the first appearance at San Javier Jazz of one of the most spectacular blues-rock bands of the last decade.
Formed in Los Angeles in 2010 and rooted in the classic blues, soul and rock and roll of the 50s and 60s, Vintage Trouble's spectacular live shows are of such a level that they have opened massive concerts for legends of rock like The Who, The Rolling Stones and AC/DC.
Their reputation is based on the fantastic instrumentalists, capable of galvanizing the audience with their virtuosity, and their vocalist Ty Taylor, whose magnetism makes it possible to imagine that James Brown is singing with Led Zeppelin!
The concert begins at 22.00 in the open-air Auditorio Municipal with tickets priced at 25 euros. Season tickets are also available: for bookings and further information click here.
