The singer and media personality plans to move to the Costa del Sol with her family next year, but passport troubles may stop her
Former Atomic Kitten star, Kerry Katona, has announced her intention to emigrate from the UK to Marbella in the south of Spain, but she has since been frustrated by delays in the passport office.
In an announcement, Katona wrote that she and her family are in the process of “looking in to” the move abroad but that they will probably “do another 12 months in the UK”.
“My mum will have a base here so whenever I come back that will be where we stay,” she went on to say.
She has quoted the long commute times in the UK as part of her reason for wanting to move to the Malaga town: “I went to London for a work meeting last week and it’s a whole day of travelling. You can hop on a plane and be in Marbella in less time. So, that’s our plan. It’s exciting.”
The star also hinted that the move has something to do with the weather in Spain: “I want to wake up to some sunshine every single day. It would be a nice life, but I also want to make sure it will be a working life. The children need to realise that they may live there, but they still need to get their homework done and work hard.
“We will start looking at schools soon to get an idea of what we’re getting into. So much of my work is online now, so it does make sense to think about a new start.”
However, Katona recently shared her frustrations after being left unable to renew her passport, which could jeopardise her future plans to move to Spain. On her Instagram story, she said she “cannot get a passport appointment” and pleaded for “help”. But she’s not alone as the Passport Office continues to report waits of up to 10 weeks for a first or replacement passport.
Katona made the announcement of her planned move shortly after her mother moved into her home after suffering a heart attack last month.
Katona herself has also recently come out of hospital after an emergency trip in which she was put onto a drip while recovering from breast reduction surgery, which she underwent due to ongoing back pain.
