Lorca cleans up its beaches after torrential rains
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The work is focused on the beaches of Puntas de Calnegre, Ramonete and Garrobillo
Councillor for Districts and Infrastructure, Ángel Meca, explained that “the sand on several beaches has disappeared and a huge amount of waste of all kinds has accumulated that remains on the coastline after being washed away, mainly, by the sudden flooding of the Rambla de Ramonete. It consists of driftwood, wooden logs and large amounts of plastic waste.”
The clean-up operation, which is being carried out not only in Puntas de Calnegre but also on the beaches of Ramonete and Garrobillo, involves a team of workers and technicians using machinery such as loaders, backhoes, tractors and trucks to collect and transport the waste. And it’s a pretty urgent task, since access to many of the shores has been completely blocked off by tonnes of displaced sand.
