ARCHIVED - Lorca offers free food, showers and rest area for lorry drivers throughout the Covid crisis
ARCHIVED ARTICLE Lorry drivers are vital for food supplies and deliveries and keeping them healthy and comfortable is top priority saya Lorca town hall
Lorca council has opened a new facility for lorry drivers in the sports stadium of the municipality, the estadio Francisco Artés Carrasco de Lorca which lies very close to exit (salida) 640 of the A7.
The installations offer a large parking area, and the council has opened up the sports stadium showers and toilets for the use of the lorry drivers.
In addition, free food and refreshments will be provided twice daily seven days a week between 12 midday and 16:00 and 18:00 to 22:00, compensating for the fact that service stations are closed.
Staff will undertake regular disinfections, monitor the use of the services, ensure that drivers observe social distancing regulations when using the facilities, take the temperature of anyone entering the area and maintain hygiene.
Lorca Mayor Diego José Mateos has also allocated a special phone number for drivers with queries: 681 20 22 05 and thanked all the drivers who are continuing to transport crucial supplies, foods and medication around the country, all the agricultural workers who continue to produce food during the crisis as well as those continuing to provide essential services.

What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212) if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre.
Sensible precautions
The advice being issued to members of the public by medical authorities all over the world coincides on the following points:
- Wash hands frequently with either soap and water or a sanitiser gel
- Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues – and throw the tissues away immediately after use before immediately washing your hands!
- If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve – and wash the item of clothing used at the next opportunity
- AVOID touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- AVOID close contact with people who are unwell
- Don´t panic!
