ARCHIVED - Lowest number of cases in one day in the last two weeks: Andalusia Covid update January 19
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
Infection and incidence rates have both dropped once again, but the number of people dying each day remains stubbornly high
14-day incidence rate in Andalucía since March 2020
Andalucía seems to be beginning to overcome the sixth wave of coronavirus in Spain, with a further decrease in the incidence rate and the number of new infections in the last day. However, there were unfortunately 28 more deaths in the last 24 hours, with the number of fatalities staying stubbornly high.
New infections
Andalucía recorded on Wednesday January 19 a total of 7,416 cases of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, the lowest figure in two weeks and 4,149 fewer cases than last Wednesday.
The 7,416 positive cases on Wednesday come after 9,703 on Tuesday, 16,498 on Monday (48 hours), 10,886 on Saturday, 14,002 on Friday, 11,177 on Thursday and 11,565 on Wednesday.
By provinces, Sevilla has the most reported positive cases with 1,226, followed by Almería with 1,203, Málaga with 1,105, Cádiz with 987, Córdoba with 911, Huelva with 718, Jaén with 700 and Granada with 566.
Cumulative incidence rate
The incidence rate over the last 14 days has fallen once again after a brief rise on Monday and six consecutive days of decreases before that. It now stands at 1,364.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 87 points less than yesterday.
Hospitalisations
Andalucía recorded a rise of 60 patients hospitalised with coronavirus to a total of 2,091, while the number of patients admitted to an Intensive Care Unit fell by five to 231, four more than a week ago.
The number of hospitalised patients rose by 60 on Wednesday, after 209 on Tuesday, 22 on Monday, 41 on Saturday, 72 on Friday, seven on Thursday and 21 on Wednesday.
The Regional Minister for Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, has stated that Andalucía has not yet reached the “maximum peak” of hospital admissions and has argued that the incidence rate “is no longer” a key figure as in previous waves of the pandemic.
Deaths
There were 28 more deaths in the Andalucía region in the last 24 hours, one fewer than the previous day and just two fewer than this time last week – showing that the number of fatalities is remaining relatively stable.
Of the 28 deaths, Málaga and Sevilla are the provinces with the most deaths with six each, followed by Córdoba with five, Almería and Granada with three, Cádiz and Jaén with two and Huelva with one.
Vaccinations
In Andalucía, 82.8% of people over 5 years of age – 7,006,528 people – have been fully vaccinated and 88.1% – 7,453,034 people – have had their first jab.
