Several other Covid indicators, such as the cumulative incidence rate and the number of hospitalisations, have also improved over the weekend.
New cases
This Monday’s update, January 24, detailed just 1,621 cases on Sunday, which is the lowest figure since the beginning of the month, when 949 cases were reported on January 2, and a large decrease from last Sunday’s number (2,397). Over the rest of the weekend, 4,357 cases were registered on Friday and 2,803 on Saturday.
After decreasing steadily for the past week or so, the number of active cases in the Region has dropped by almost 5,000 over the weekend and now stands at 37,520.
Hospitalisations
Hospital admissions have decreased to 619 in the latest update, but Covid patients in intensive care units have increased from 77 on Friday January 21 to 81. These are also 36,901 Covid-positive patients in self-isolation at home.
Recoveries
Over the weekend, 13,395 people have been given the all-clear from the virus; 256,008 since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
Fatalities

The victims were two men and two women aged 51, 74, 85 and 95.
