ARCHIVED - Mazarrón police thank schools and businesses for their donations and support
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The Policia Local in Mazarrón has issued a message of thanks to pupils from the colegio C.E.I.P La Cruz (El Esparragal, Murcia), which has donated masks made by pupils, teachers and parents to assist the agents in their Covid-19 control work.
Further masks made by the school have been donated to hospitals within the Murcia Health Service network including "La Arrixaca" and "Santa Lucía", amongst others.
The school is closed, along with all others across the Murcia Region, and many pupils are receiving tuition and support online at home. This continuance of educational activities is “everything” the police say in their statement, donations such as this helping youngsters to understand the concepts of solidarity, generosity and ingenuity during difficult times.
“Investing into education is investing into the health service, the economy and security of the future,” they say.
Thanks have also been given for the many associations, businesses and religious and social bodies within the municipality who have donated a variety of material including handwash gel, protective glasses, masks and other protective and cleaning materials to help the police with their work in these difficult times.
At the moment Mazarrón has 12 active cases of Covid-19 and one death, although as has been stated many times before, the lack of testing means that the actual number of cases is considerably higher, as those ringing the helpline with symptoms are not actually being tested and their cases confirmed.

What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212) if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre.
Sensible precautions
The advice being issued to members of the public by medical authorities all over the world coincides on the following points:
- Wash hands frequently with either soap and water or a sanitiser gel
- Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues – and throw the tissues away immediately after use before immediately washing your hands!
- If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve – and wash the item of clothing used at the next opportunity
- AVOID touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- AVOID close contact with people who are unwell
- Don´t panic!
