Michelin-star restaurants in the Region of Murcia
Three restaurants in Murcia boast coveted Michelin stars
In recent years, the southeast and Mediterranean coast of Spain has been distinguishing itself for its array of gastronomic traditions, exceptional fresh produce and innovative, sophisticated and award winning restaurants.
In fact, the Region of Murcia is home to three Michelin-star restaurants offering fine dining and experimental, contemporary dishes.
Murcia didn’t manage to add any prestigious stars to its list in the new Michelin awards in December 2021, but the brilliance of chefs Pablo González Conejero, María Gómez and Nazario Cano was once again recognised.
The 3 Michelin-starred restaurants in Murcia
1. La Cabaña de la Finca Buenavista in Murcia
La Cabaña de la Finca Buenavista boasts the most stars of all the restaurants in the region with two, awarded in 2009 and 2017. The restaurant, which has a charming rustic decor, is located in the Murcian district of El Palmar, and opened its doors in 2004 under the direction of chef Pablo González Conejero, who is still in charge of the kitchen.
The chef and his team have an extraordinary culinary research lab where they experiment and create new dishes, and La Cabaña offers a tasting menu appropriately called the ‘Experience Menu’ for 145 euros, excluding drinks.
This consists of 15 appetizers, three courses, cheeses, two desserts and petit fours, using locally sourced ingredients.
The Michelin Guide points out that the restaurant makes a “fun commitment to appetizers, which have become its hallmark, as well as its exceptional cuisine”.
Amongst dishes highlighted are the iodized mousse, tear pea and razor clams, and Iberian Agnei in embers.
2. Magoga in Cartagena
The Magoga restaurant, run by chef María Gómez and her head waiter husband, Adrián de Marcos, confirmed itself as one of the most relevant gastronomic venues in the country with the award of its first, and for the moment only, Michelin star in 2019.
Located in the historic square where Cartagena’s vegetable market was once located, Magoga offers sensitive, contemporary cuisine based on local recipes and ingredients. Its tasting menu costs 95 euros per person, or 160 euros with wine pairings.
Dishes that stand out include the lamb’s tail ravioli, foie gras and raspberry cream, buttered skate with bacon and stewed cod tripe, and the caramelised brioche torrija with Asian coffee.
3. Odiseo in Murcia
In 2020, a Michelin Star was awarded to the Odiseo restaurant, run by the prestigious chef Nazario Cano, who received a star in 2017 whilst at the helm of El Rodat restaurant’s kitchen in Alicante. The Odiseo combines a spectacular dining room within Odiseo Leisure Centre with exceptional Mediterranean cuisine.
There are three tasting menu options: the ‘Lucky’ menu for 60 euros; the ‘Indagando en la cocica de Nazario Cano’ menu (Investigating Nazario Cano’s kitchen) for 90 euros; and the ‘En estado puro, de Nazario Cano’ menu (In a pure state by Nazario Cano) for 145 euros. Wine pairing is not included.
Michelin Guide critics highlighted the restaurant’s glazed veal sweetbread, camomile with sardines and artichoke, and the tonka bean and pistachio ice cream.
