ARCHIVED - More Covid after the spring fairs and fiestas: Andalusia Covid update May 17
Deaths, infection rates and hospitalisations have all jumped up after the recent spate of fairs and festivals in Andalucía
The cumulative incidence rate among over-60s in Andalucía has increased by more than 150 points in just four days, up to 606. There have been 49 more Covid-related fatalities in the region and almost a hundred more people have been admitted to hospital with the disease over the weekend.
This rise in the Covid data is partly being put down to such recent events as the Feria de Seville, Feria de Jerez and the Cordoba flower patio festival, where thousands of people all gathered in one place, most of them without face masks. In Jerez, for example, almost 1,000 rapid tests were sold in local pharmacies the day after the festival.
New infections
It has been reported on Tuesday May 17 that Andalucía has registered a total of 6,992 new cases of coronavirus since last Friday, of which 3,167 were in people over 60 years old, bringing the total number of infections in Andalucía since the start of the pandemic to 1,490,490.
Cumulative incidence rate
Regarding the current average incidence rate of infection in Andalucía in the last 14 days in people over 60 years of age, this stands at 606.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is 159.1 points higher than four days ago.
Hospitalisations
The Regional Ministry of Health and Families has notified in its communiqué on coronavirus that the region has registered a rise of 94 patients hospitalised by coronavirus with respect to Friday 13, up to a total of 871, while admissions to the ICU have risen by eight to 54 people.
Deaths
Deaths have also risen compared to four days ago, from 42 on Friday to 49 on Tuesday, the highest number in a month.
The number of patients who have been cured of Covid or recovered from the disease has now reached 1,433,899 in the whole region, 6,447 more than on Friday.
Vaccinations
In terms of vaccines, Andalucía has administered a total of 18,456,324 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine up to Monday May 16 – 4,475 more since last Friday – and a total of 7,434,120 people in the region have received their full vaccination schedule (two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or Astra Zeneca, or one of Janssen), while 7,600,470 have at least one dose. In addition, a total of 4,282,725 people have three doses.
With these figures, the region has 87.7% of the population with the full vaccination schedule, 95.2% of those over 12 years old and 91.6% of those over five, while 89.7% of the population have received at least the first dose, 96.4% of those over 12 and 93.6% of those over five.
By provinces, in Seville 4,318,149 doses have already been administered, while a total of 1,735,767 people have had both injections, and in Malaga 3,478,498 doses have been administered and 1,408,035 people in Malaga have received the full vaccination course. In Cadiz, 2,734,083 vaccinations have been administered and 1,100,261 people have completed the full schedule.
In Granada, 2,006,912 doses have been administered and 814,236 people have received the full course; in Cordoba, 1,788,002 and 700,346 have received the full course; in Almeria, 1,582,004 and 643,00 people have received the full course; in Jaen, 1,415,692 doses have been administered and 564,259 people have received the full course; and in Huelva, 1,132,984 doses and 468,216 people have received the full course.
