The Valencia region's Ministry of Health has reported 22,081 new cases and 10 deaths in the last 24 hours
New Covid cases continue to climb as the sixth wave of the pandemic maintains its grip in the Valenica region with 103,681 infections recorded in the last seven days.
The week kicked off with a record 29,347 positives over the weekend, and the upward trend has continued throughout the week, culminating in 22,081 cases reported in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data from the region's Ministry of Health.
Alicante appears to be the province hit the hardest, exceeding 6,000 daily infections for the third consecutive day.
Coronavirus cases
The Regional Ministry of Health has reported 22,081 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, up from 19,278 on Thursday January 13, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 816,667.
By province: 4,545 have been recorded in Castellón (97,686 in total), 7,653 in Alicante (296,170) and 9,883 in Valencia (422,809).
There are two unassigned cases.
According to the health data, there are currently 145,582 active cases, which represents 17.58% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,464 people admitted to hospital with Covid (down from 1,495 on Thursday), 189 of them in ICU (seven less): 222 in the province of Castellón, 25 in ICU; 515 in the province of Alicante, 61 of them in ICU; and 727 in the province of Valencia, 103 in ICU.
In the last 24 hours, 146,415 patients have overcome the virus, meaning 674,246 people have recovered from the disease since the start of the pandemic.
By provinces, the discharges are distributed as follows: 75,217 in Castellón, 240,239 in Alicante and 358,734 in Valencia. The total of unassigned registrations remains at 56.
Fatalities
A further 10 Covid-related deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the overall death toll to 8,280: 936 in the province of Castellón, 3,178 in Alicante and 4,166 in Valencia.
The deceased are five women, aged between 36 and 93, and five men between the ages of 51 and 88-years-old.
Vaccination data
4,265,413 people are now double-jabbed or have received the Janssen single dose. A total of 10,042,110 doses of vaccine have been administered since the beginning of the pandemic.
