New cases: In the last 24 hour period a further 1,884 new cases were diagnosed by PCR test, bringing the the total number of active cases to an all-time high of 17,604. This is more new cases in one day than during the entire period between March and June in the Murcia Region and is the twelfth day out of the last 14 in which the daily figure has been higher than the highest figure recorded in the second wave of the pandemic, which was only 1,002 cases.
Of the 1,884 new cases, 626 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 232 to Cartagena, 117 to Yecla, 101 to Lorca, 73 to Molina de Segura, 72 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 62 to Cieza, 58 to Jumilla, 44 to Torre Pacheco , 37 to Las Torres de Cotillas, 36 to Alcantarilla, 27 to Águilas, 26 to Moratalla, 26 to Mula, 25 to San Javier, 23 to San Pedro del Pinatar, 22 to Santomera, 21 to Archena, 21 to Ceutí, 19 to Cehegín, 18 to Alhama de Murcia, 16 to Fuente Álamo, 15 to Abarán, 15 to Mazarrón, 15 to Totana, 14 to La Unión, 12 to Alguazas, 12 to Beniel, 12 to Bullas, 11 to Fortuna, 8 to Puerto Lumbreras , 7 to Los Alcázares, 7 to Blanca, 7 to Calasparra, 6 to Campos del Rio, and 6 to Lorquí, with the remainder spread around the region in smaller quantities.
These latest additions bring the number of cases diagnosed to date in the region to 83,653.
AI rate: Number of cases per 100,000 of population.
The regional average has risen to 819 over 7 days and 1493 over 14, both EXTREMELY high levels and way above the national average.
Bearing in mind that the target level for the virus to be brought under control is 25 for 7 days and 60 for 14, these figures are very worrying and reflect the high level of transmission in the region.
The worst affected areas are:
Over 14 days: Moratalla 4171 per 100,000, Albudeite 3641, Yecla 3589, Firtuna 3223, Mula 3145, Caravaca 2853, Jumilla 2351
Over 7 days: Albudeite 2330, Yecla 2186, Moratalla 2143, Mula 1907, Caravaca 1634
See below for 14 day figures:
Hospitalisations:
48 further admissions have brought the number of patients with more severe cases of coronavirus to 900, another record high and the number in intensive care to 122, also another record high.
This volume of admissions means that every single bed normally allocated for intensive care use in the region is now full and the additional contingency plan beds prepared by the health service are now in use. It is possible for the regional health service to handle up to 350 intensive care patients under the contingency plan, although this is an extreme case scenario and the health service hopes it will never be necessary to bring all of these beds into use for ICU patients.
