ARCHIVED - More rain and blustery weather this week: Spain forecast Dec 5-8
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Widespread rain is forecast across Spain this week although the temperatures will remain mild
Spain will enjoy two holiday days this coming week but unfortunately it doesn’t look like the weather is going to cooperate, with another succession of Atlantic fronts and storms set to sweep in, bringing abundant rain to most of the country.
Monday December 5 is going to be cloudy and damp, with heavy rain passing from the southwest to the northeast throughout the day, marking a very wet start in western Andalucia and Extremadura. The rain will extend to the rest of the Atlantic coast by the afternoon and will reach the rest of the country by evening, although it will be much weaker.
Daytime temperatures will drop throughout the Valencian Community, reaching a maximum of 20ºC in Alicante, but the thermometers will tend to rise slightly in the northwest, western Andalucia and some parts of the southeast coast and the Canary Islands.
Andalucia, Extremadura and Castilla y Leon have been issued with a yellow weather warning for heavy rain.
Cloudy or largely overcast skies will mark the beginning of Tuesday December 6, with scattered showers forecast for almost the entire country, with the exception of Catalonia. The rain will be very heavy around the southern cost and Andalucia in the morning although the skies should clear by the afternoon.
The maximum temperatures will fall in eastern Andalucia but they should climb elsewhere, reaching a pleasant 25ºC in parts of the Canary Islands. Similarly, the night will be a little warmer and most areas will avoid frosts.
Andalucia is under a yellow warning for rain in the early hours of the morning.
Another active Atlantic front will make its presence known on Wednesday December 7, moving from the southwest to the northeast and resulting in cloudy skies in most of the most of the country. During the first half of the day there is a chance of weak, scattered showers along the Atlantic coast but this will strengthen towards the afternoon, bringing abundant rainfall to the southwest.
Night-time temperatures will fall everywhere although the thermometers will rise during the day in the south.
Thursday December 8 will have another wet and overcast start due to another low located to the west of Spain. The whole country will experience some rain and showers, which could become more stormy along the Atlantic coast, the Galician coast and in large parts of Aragon and Catalonia.
The Balearic Islands and the Mediterranean area should escape the worst of the rain, but the day will be mostly cloudy.
Daytime temperatures will remain in the low 20s in the south, dropping in the extreme north of the country. Winds from the south and southwest are expected for most of Spain, with strong intervals in coastal areas.
