ARCHIVED - Murcia Covid Update July 26: cumulative incidence rate surpasses 400
ARCHIVED ARTICLE The cumulative incidence rate in the Region of Murcia has jumped to 424 as hospital pressure increases
Murcia’s Minister of Health, Juan José Pedreño, delivered the stark news that the cumulative incidence rate in the Region has jumped up by 30 per cent in the past week after a meeting of the Covid Monitoring Committee on Monday, July 26. The incidence rate over a 7 day period now stands at 237.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the 14-day figure is at a new high of 424.
Every municipality in the region has reported new covid cases within the last 14 days and every municipality except Aledo has reported new cases within the last seven days:
In a week when all of Spain has experienced a general increase in infections, the Region of Murcia is still below the national average.
On Sunday alone, 225 new infections were recorded in the Region with 52 in Murcia, 42 in Cartagena and 18 in Lorca.
The minister was also quick to point out that the work of screening and early detection has intensified, which has contributed “in part” to large increases in reported cases in some municipalities.
Throughout the municipalities of Molina de Segura, Lorquí, Murcia, Cartagena, Águilas, La Unión, San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Fortuna, Librilla and Archena, a total of 1,462 people were tested in recent days with 60 positives, representing a 4.1 per cent positivity rate.

As can be expected, the increase in infections throughout the Region of Murcia is placing the health services under more and more pressure; there are now 103 people hospitalised with Covid ranging from 18 to 92 years. Of these, 14 people are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU),
the vast majority of whom haven’t yet been vaccinated.
Sadly, another Covid –related fatality has also been reported, an 81 year-old man from the Mar Menor area (health area 8).
Vaccinations: Last week, 94,000 doses of the Covid vaccine were administered, bringing the total number of people fully vaccinated up to 940,000.
