ARCHIVED - Murcia Covid update September 10: one fatality, a non-vaccinated 49-year-old
ARCHIVED ARTICLE 118 new cases have been reported in the latest 24-hour period
The number of Covid cases reported in the latest 24-hour period within the Murcia region is 118, taking the total number of active cases in the region at the end of the week to 1,549.
This follows the gradual downward trend which has been visible in the daily figures throughout the last six weeks and can be clearly seen in the graph above, which illustrates the number of new cases diagnosed on a daily basis at the top and the situation in the region’s hospitals below.
As the graphs show, the number of patients hospitalised has been falling, but still remains at the same levels as at the beginning of March, when the fourth wave was abating.
Currently there are 112 patients requiring hospital treatment for more severe cases of Covid, following three admissions on Thursday. Of these, 26 are in intensive care units; this number has increased by four new admissions in the last 24-hour period, in spite of one of the patients, a 49-year-old man, dying.
The health authorities have commented that the man concerned, who came from the Murcia East Health Area VII had not been vaccinated.
His death brings the total to date in the region to 1,713.
The 118 new cases of the virus reported on Friday are seven cases less than on Thursday, illustrating the slow downward trend.
Of the 118 new cases, 41 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 20 to Cartagena, 10 to Las Torres de Cotillas, 7 to Molina de Segura, 5 to La Unión, 3 to Mula, 3 to San Pedro del Pinatar, 3 to Torre Pacheco, with the remainder spread around the region in smaller quantities.
Most of these are mild cases, so those testing positive are asked to observe home quarantine. As of today, there are 1,437 people in isolation at home who have tested positive.
This all contributes to an average accumulated incidence rate per 100,000 of population to 137.4 cases per 100,000 over the latest 14-day period and 54.5 over 7 days, also emphasising the slowly declining numbers of new cases. The fact that the 7-day rate is below half of the 24-day rate means that the rate should continue to fall in the coming days.
The region needs to reduce the level of cases to below 50 for the pandemic to be considered under control. This is achievable, and the region had reached this level just before the relaxation of restrictions at the beginning of summer which removed the mandatory requirement to wear masks in public places and permitted free movement around the country.
See below for accumulated rate over 14 days in the different municipalities of the region.
Vaccinations:
The vaccination campaign continues to roll-out and the latest data published by the national health authorities indicates that 1,095,708 Murcian residents have been fully vaccinated from a total of 1,319,137 people aged over 12 who are entitled to be vaccinated in the Murcia region, accounting for 83.6% of the population.
The number who have received at least one dose is 1,160,019 individuals, accounting for 88.5% of the population aged over 12, so Murcia is doing well and still has stocks of vaccines available for anyone who has not yet been vaccinated.
