ARCHIVED - Murcia temperatures to drop by up to 5 degrees on Friday
ARCHIVED ARTICLE Autumnal weather arrives at last in the Costa Cálida!
The forecasters at the State meteorological agency Aemet are warning that the weather in the Region of Murcia in the latter part of this week will be noticeably cooler, with maximum temperatures dropping by around 4 or 5 degrees on Friday and minimums beginning a gradual downward slide which will continue until next Tuesday.
The period comprising the first half of November was the second warmest in Murcia in the last 36 years, according to Aemet’s data, but as the days become shorter (it is only a month or so until the shortest of the year!) it appears that autumnal conditions are finally on their way to the Costa Cálida. While the sharpest drop in temperatures is expected between Thursday and Friday, with highs falling from around 23 degrees to 19 in the city of Murcia, by Tuesday it is even possible that the first frosts will occur on higher ground in the north-west of the Region.
Maximums and minimums for Friday:
Maximum temperatures as follows: Murcia City and the Segura River valley 21, 18 in the far north and Yecla, 18 in the north-west, with Caravaca in the centre, 19 in Lorca and the south-west and 14 in Cartagena and around the Mar Menor.
Minimum temperatures; 11 in Murcia City and the Segura River valley, 5 in the far north and Yecla, 7 in the north-west, with Caravaca in the centre, 8 in Lorca and the south-west and 14 in Cartagena and around the Mar Menor.
Maximums and minimums for Saturday:
Maximum temperatures as follows: Murcia City and the Segura River valley 19, 15 in the far north and Yecla, 15 in the north-west, with Caravaca in the centre, 16 in Lorca and the south-west and 13 in Cartagena and around the Mar Menor.
Minimum temperatures; 8 in Murcia City and the Segura River valley, 3 in the far north and Yecla, 5 in the north-west, with Caravaca in the centre, 7 in Lorca and the south-west and 13 in Cartagena and around the Mar Menor.
On Sunday temperatures will fall another degree, possibly reaching zero in Yecla overnight or -1 on Monday evening.
In other words, a week which began with many people picnicking on the beach could well end with those venturing outdoors wrapping up in sweaters and coats as they hurriedly dig out their winter wear and look for the firelighters!
For beleaguered retailers waiting in shops filled with winter clothing, the cold snap can´t come soon enough!
