Alicante province breaks previous pandemic record for highest number of infections in 24 hours
Just 24 hours after Alicante province set a record for the highest number of Covid cases in a single day, it has surpassed the milestone with 9,209 positives since the last Ministry of Health update on Thursday.
As a whole, the Valencia region has registered 25 deaths and 26,764 new infections since yesterday as day-on-day increases continue, pushing the 14-day cumulative incidence rate to 3,501.4 cases per 100,000 people.
Coronavirus cases
The Regional Ministry of Health has reported 26,764 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, up from 22,016 on Wednesday January 19, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 913,327.
By province: 2,641 have been recorded in Castellón (112,707 in total), 9,209 in Alicante (331,507) and 14,824 in Valencia (469,111).
There are still two unassigned cases.
According to the health data, there are currently 166,033 active cases, which represent 17.95% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,720 people admitted to hospital with Covid (24 more than on Wednesday), 190 of them in ICU (eight less): 234 in the province of Castellón, 24 in ICU; 589 in the province of Alicante, 63 of them in ICU; and 921 in the province of Valencia, 103 in ICU.
22,650 patients have overcome the virus since the last update, meaning 750,367 people have recovered from the disease since the start of the pandemic.
By provinces, the discharges are distributed as follows: 84,793 in Castellón; 267,405 in Alicante; and 398,113 in Valencia. The total of unassigned registrations remains at 56.
Fatalities
A further 25 Covid-related deaths have been reported since Wednesday's update, which brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 8,368: 956 in the province of Castellón, 3,210 in Alicante and 4,202 in Valencia.
The deceased, who died within the last seven days, are 13 women, aged between 50 and 100, and 12 men between 54 and 89-years-old.
Vaccination data
There has been no update on vaccinations, but as of Friday January 14, 4,265,413 people had been double-jabbed or had received the Janssen single dose, and a total of 10,042,110 doses of vaccine had been administered since the beginning of the pandemic.
