The 2023 Yecla Jazz festival is taking place in the first week of October with a series of evening concerts beginning at 21.30 in the Teatro Concha Segura, the line-up being as follows:
Tuesday October 3 – Alfonso Calvo Septet. Galician double bassist and composer Alfonso Calvo presents a new selection of original numbers in his cool, laid-back style, reminiscent of Gil Evans on the one hand and Miles Davis on the other.
Wednesday October 4 – Thorbjorn Risager & The Black Tornado. A mix of blues, rock and roll and soul from a band which has been constantly touring Europe, North America and Asia for the last 20 years. This fusion of soul, Chicago blues, boogie and rock and roll calls to mind Ray Charles, Van Morrison and Billy Gibbons.
Thursday October 5 – Swing Machine Orchestra. No prizes for guessing the favoured genre of this band as they perform mixtures of “fandango-swing”, “pasodoble-foxtrot”, “bolero-jazz” and others!
Friday October 6 – Viktorija Pilatovic. For over 10 years Viktorija Pilatovic has been delighted her audiences with her voice and her stage presence, her poetic lyrics matching melodies which reach the heart.
Saturday October 7 – Eme Eme Project. This is the latest project of flautist Marta Mansilla, combining jazz with soul and even Madrid hip-hop after a long career accompanying artists such as Rozalém amd Juan Parrilla.
Admission to each concert is priced at just 6 euros. Tickets go on sale at the box office of the Teatro Concha Segura on September 26 between 19.00 and 21.00 and the following day on the Instanticket platform.
