Lorca City Council has begun preparing its municipal beaches the summer season
Lorca has started getting its beaches ready for summer by temporarily installing equipment such as walkways over the sand, watchtowers for lifeguards, footbaths, chemical toilets, shaded areas and more.
The acting councillor for the Environment and Public Safety of Lorca City Council, José Luis Ruiz Guillén, has reported that this work to get the beaches of the municipality ready for the summer season is being carried out in coordination with the Coastal Demarcation and the Autonomous Community.
The beaches that fall under the jurisdiction of Lorca Town Council include those in the Cabo Cope and
Puntas de Calnegre areas.
Councillor Ruiz Guillén explained, “In order to offer swimmers adequate enjoyment of the beaches, the corresponding authorisations have been requested from the regional and state administration for the temporary installation of, among others, equipment such as walkways, watchtowers, footbaths, chemical toilets, containers, shaded areas, etc., as well as the request for authorisation for drone flights and the provisional installation of signage on the existence of monitored air zones.”
In addition, they have submitted a request to be able to clear away seaweed in those areas where it may be necessary, as well as improve the access roads to the coves and increase the daily surveillance service to control how many cars arrive at the beaches.
The cleaning and maintenance service will also be provided in the coastal area of the municipality of Lorca for the summer season, covering the tasks of preliminary cleaning of the beaches for the removal of accumulated waste during the non-summer period and of general cleaning throughout the summer.
Large chemical toilets adapted for people with reduced mobility will be installed at
Cala de Calnegre and Puntas de Calnegre beaches, which will be properly maintained and cleaned.
To ensure “proper use of the beaches”, there will be an increased local police presence and additional rescue services at the ready in case of emergency on the beach.
