Calasparra, schedule of acts, Semana Santa

Although Semana Santa isn´t a major event in Calasparra, it does include an interesting representation of the capture of Jesus in the Gardens of Gethsemene, known here as the el prendimiento de Jesús en el Huerto de los Olivos.
The theatrical representation takes place in the street, in the Parque del Prendimiento, starring "Las Picas" a squadron of Roman Soldiers given the task of arresting Jesus.

The same squadron also star in a unique event on the morning of the day of resurrection,: having been given the task of guarding the tomb of Jesus, they flee upon seeing the image of Jesús Resuscitado, trying to hide, a pointless exercise as they are pursued and cornered by the Virgen de la Dolorosa.


Friday 30th March, Viernes Santo

VÍA CRUCIS.
The Paso of  Cristo de la Sangre parades in Vía Crucis, with the Cofradía of the same name, accompanied by the sound of a single tambor.
Route: Juan Ramón Jiménez, Poeta Miguel Hernández, Lavador, Manzano, Goya, Los Santos, Aurora, La Virgen, Mayor, Plaza de la Constitución, Iglesia de San Pedro.

Departure at  22:00
Route: Departure from the Ermita de los ¨Santos Mártires Abdón y Senén, Calle de los Santos, Vázquez, Lavador, Miguel Hernández, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Corredera, Salzillo, Mayor, Constitución finishing at the Templo de San Pedro

Sunday 1st April, Domingo de Ramos, Palm Sunday
9am mass in the Ermita de los Santos Mártires
11am Blessing of palms and olive branches in the   Templo de los Santos Mártires
 and subsequent procession to the Templo de la Merced

Transfer of the figure of Ecce-Homo.
Ecce-Homo is moved into the town from his hermitage. During the procession there is an encuentro with the image of the Virgen de la Dolorosa

 5pm. Mass in the hermitage of Ecce-Homo, following transfer of image to town.

Departure Germán Galindo, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Plaza de la Corredera, Salzillo, Mayor, Constitución, arrival at the  Iglesia de San Pedro at around 8pm.

8.30pm Transfer of the image of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad

Holy Wednesday, 4th April, Miercoles Santo
The taking of Jesus in the Gardens of Gethsemene.
Representation in the street which concludes with the intervention of the images of Jesus and Saint Peter.

Parade of the Journey to Monte  Calvario, in which all the Cofradías participate.

 Departure Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol, following Plaza de la Constitución, Mayor, Lavador, Ordónez, Higinio García, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Plaza de la Corredera, Salzillo, Mayor, Constitución to the  Templo de San Pedro.

Sunday 8th April, Resurrection Sunday
In the Plaza de la Constitución the act of the appearance of Jesus arisen takes place, and the flight of the Romans.
9am. Mass in the Ermita de los Santos Mártires

10.30am Procession of the resurrection.

15th April 10.30am Transfer of the image of Ecce-Homo from San Pedro to his own hermitage. Upon arrival a Misa Huertana, a musical mass, is celebrated.
