The latest Covid update in the Region of Murcia, which corresponds with Thursday (June 10) and was published on Friday June 11, reports 52 new cases and 69 recoveries, making the total number of active cases 573, 18 fewer than in the previous report.
Of these 52 new cases, more than double the 23 new cases reported on the previous day, 13 were in the municipality of Murcia, seven in Cartagena, five in Lorca, five in Torres de Cotillas, four in Molina de Segura, four in San Javier, two in Alcantarilla, two in Puerto Lumbreras and two in Totana.
The remaining eight cases were distributed around the region in smaller quantities.
One further Covid-related death has been reported in the Region; a 55-year-old man from Cartagena.
This death brings the total number of fatalities caused by Covid in the Murcia region to 1,605.
Recent progress in the vaccination campaign has diminished the death rate, but there is still a long way to go until the virus is under control.
The national figures issued by the Health Ministry indicate that Murcia has administered 930,080 doses of vaccine; this translates to 352,507 members of the public who are fully vaccinated and a further 225,066 who have received a first dose of the virus.
Meanwhile, the situation in the Region’s hospitals remains practically the same, with 35 patients hospitalized with Covid, of whom 15 are in intensive care; one more person than on Wednesday (June 9).
In addition, 538 people who have tested positive for coronavirus are currently in isolation in their homes.
Throughout Thursday, medical staff carried out 2,228 PCR and antigen tests generating a positivity rate of 2.3 per cent.
This is a low level, but means that the virus continues to circulate, although is generating a low level of new cases as the number of vaccinations grows steadily.
However, the number of new cases being reported is now so low that the region has dropped to below 50 cases per 100,000 over 14 days, taking the region into "low risk" territory. The new rate is 48.04 cases per 100,000; the lowest rates remain the Valencia region with 40.08; Galicia with 45.52; Balearic Islands with 42.08 and Asturias with 74.70.
At the opposite end of the scale are La Rioja with 200.05; Andalucía 188.14; and the Basque Country with 165.86.
The national average has now fallen to 108.46.
Within the region of Murcia, Calasparra has the highest rate with 98 cases per 100,000; San Javier 90.6; Caravaca de la Cruz 77.9; Librilla 75; Cehegín 74; Lorca 66; Fuente Álamo 65.
