As we step into the first weekend of September, Spain’s weather is showing its usual early autumn mix. Atlantic weather systems will bring a mix of showers and storms focusing mainly on northern and northeastern Spain over the weekend, while the south and east enjoy warmer, drier conditions. Winds will vary, with some gusty coastal and mountain breezes.

 

Northern Spain will see showers and possible thunderstorms, especially in northern Galicia and the western Pyrenees, with afternoon storms likely in Catalonia and the Valencian Community. Elsewhere, expect clear skies or high clouds, with morning fog in northwest and coastal areas. Temperatures will fall in eastern Cantabria but climb in the southeast. Winds will breeze from varying directions, with strong gusts in Cantabria and Ampurdán.

Showers may appear at dawn along the Catalan and Valencian coasts, with some storms possible in Tarragona and Castellón. The rest of Spain stays mostly dry with some morning fog in northern and eastern regions. Temperatures dip in the east and Strait area but rise on the Atlantic slope. Strong easterly gusts are expected around the Strait of Gibraltar.

 

Clouds increase from the northwest with rain and thunderstorms in Galicia and northwest coasts, especially heavy in Rías Baixas. Scattered storms could form inland near the Pyrenees and Iberian System late in the day. Morning fog may linger in northern and eastern areas. Temperatures fall in the northwest but rise in eastern Cantabria. Winds generally light with stronger gusts in Galicia and eastern Mediterranean.

 

A front brings widespread rain and cloud to northwest Spain, especially Galicia and the western Meseta, clearing later in the day. Scattered storms may develop inland in the east and southeast. The Balearics see cloud cover, while the Canaries remain mostly clear. Temperatures fall in parts of the interior but rise across the Mediterranean and archipelagos. Winds shift and strengthen in northern and western areas.

 

Spain can expect a typical early autumn mix with wet, unsettled weather in the north contrasting with warmer, drier conditions in the south and east - ideal timing for a variety of plans.
