Costumed actors accompany visitors on a tour of the principal historical attractions of the town
Throughout the year the tourist information office in Águilas offers a series of free guided tours to visitors, illustrating the fascinating history of this municipality.
This particular free guided tour offers visitors a chance to visit the historical sites within the town, accompanied by costumed actors free of charge.
The tours are in Spanish, and take a good three hours, but it´s an interesting way to explore Aguilas and you'll often find someone who speaks enough English to give a commentary en route. Even if you don't, it´s an enjoyable morning out, and a way of exploring the town, and you can always go back later on your own with visitors.
Anyone interested in reading a little background information about the municipality and the places scheduled for a visit as part of the tour will find full information written in English on the dedicated Águilas English language webpage: ÁGUILAS TODAY
There are leaflets available in English up at the castle and the tourist office also has leaflets in English which could be picked up beforehand. After the visit, participants can enjoy a drink or meal in any of the numerous seafront restaurants and bars.
The tour follows a route from the port, starting at the sculpture of Icarus, the Castle of san Juan, Roman Baths and Archaeological Museum, concluding in the Plaza de España where there is an attractive fountain, the Moorish styled town hall and plenty of attractive open-air bars in the gardens within the plaza.
The tours are free but booking is required by phoning the tourist office on 968 493 285 or by using the safe contact box below.
The tour begins at 10.30am from the tourist office and concludes at lunchtime.
Be aware that the road leading up to the castle is fairly steep, although there is a lift at the foot of the castle itself. For this reason it's advisable to wear sturdy footwear and carry water.
If you want to go off and do the route at your own leisure, you can do so any time by following our own route in the Where to go section. There is a minimal fee for entering the castle, but the museum is free and it´s a lovely morning out.
