Hopefully the Region of Murcia will be given permission to pass into phase 2 of the de-escalation plan on Monday, allowing all residents total flexibility in the hours spent enjoying the beautiful spring weather and outdoor locations of the region. Throughout the next week temperatures are expected to remain stable and comfortable, with this weekend hotter than the early part of next week.
Until then, exercising in the morning and evening could be the best option regardless, given the high temperatures expected between Friday and Sunday.
On both Friday and Saturday all of the region will bathe in temperatures normally experienced only in the peak of the summer months;
Central areas including Murcia City the Ricote Valley in the Vega Media del Segura and Molina de Segura can expect maximums of up to 35 degrees, with clear skies except for some cloudy intervals early on Saturday morning or later on Sunday afternoon.
Night-time temperatures are not expected to drop below 17 degrees.
The forecast is almost the same for Lorca and the Guadalentín Valley, which spreads across from Puerto Lumbreras through Lorca and across to the foot of the Sierra Espuña, encompassing Totana and Alhama de Murcia which can expect pretty much the same thing.
The Northwest (Caravaca, Bullas etc)and the Altiplano (Yecla and Jumilla), will have slightly lower temperatures, but only by a couple of degrees.
Coastal areas will be slightly lower than central areas, with highs of around 25 to 27 degrees Celsius in Cartagena and around the Mar Menor and warmer further along the coast in Mazarrón and Águilas, ranging from 28 to 31 degrees Celsius.
On the coast temperatures are expected to remain over 20 degrees, with the balmy Mediterranean nights known as “tropical nights” once they remain over 20 degrees, making it difficult to sleep.
On Sunday the weather is expected to change slightly as the anticyclone which has created this warm, stable weather moves off towards the Mediterranean pushed by a storm coming in from the Atlantic.
As my windsurfing-mad husband has already pointed out, this brings the prospect of Levante winds, albeit accompanied by slightly cooler temperatures, dropping by between 4 and 5 degrees, and cloudier skies, although remaining in the comfortable and pleasant mid-twenties which are more characteristic of the end of May/early June.
So sailing fanatics will be enable to enjoy a good blast on the Mar Menor during daylight hours for the first time since lockdown began unless they’re lucky enough to live in the Cartagena coastal areas, in which case they can expect fabulous sailing on Sunday as well!.
Have a good weekend and stay safe.
