The Sacred Flame is on its way for the fiestas of Cartagena after setting out 270 km away! There are just a couple of days left now before the start of the annual Carthagineses y Romanos fiestas in Cartagena, and the Sacred Flame (Iter Ignis) which burns throughout the celebrations is already on its way from Linares in the province of Jaén.

This is the longest journey yet undertaken by the bearers of the torch, and the trip began on Saturday September 14. Cartagena was represented by Councillor Francisca Martínez, who joined the Mayoress of Linares, Auxi del Olmo, and the President of the Federation de Troops and Legions, José Antonio Meca in a city where a similar historical heritage exists due to the settlement of Cástulo, a very important city even long before the Roman conquest of what is now Spain began.

The Sacred Flame is on its way for the fiestas of Cartagena after setting out 270 km away! By the time the flame reaches Cartagena on 20^th September it will have been carried by runners over a distance of 270 kilometres, having passed through the stop-off points of Baeza, Quesada, Baza, Huéscar, La Parroquia, Lorca and Águilas. The final leg will take place by boat, with the torch reaching the port of Cartagena in time for the official opening of the festivities and reenactments.
