The Valencian Community leads Spain once again with 152 Blue Flag beaches for 2026

The Valencian Community has held onto its position at the top of Spain's Blue Flag rankings for 2026, with 152 awards distributed across 48 municipalities, nine more than last year.

It's the most of any autonomous community in the country, ahead of Andalucia with 143, Galicia with 118 and Catalonia with 101.

The awards were announced on Tuesday May 5 by the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer Protection (ADEAC), which runs the programme in Spain. This year's national total of 677 Blue Flag beaches is the highest since the initiative launched back in 1987 and the Valencian Community's coastline plays a significant part in that success story.

Six of the community's beaches have held the Blue Flag every single year since 1987, a distinction shared by only one other beach in the whole of Spain.

Those beaches are El Carregador in Alcalá de Xivert, Sant Joan in Alicante, La Fossa in Calpe, Sant Antoni in Cullera, Carrer la Mar in El Campello and Nord in Gandía. Two marinas, the Altea Yacht Club and the Calpe Royal Yacht Club, can also claim the same unbroken record, making them unique in the world.
