The operations resulted in the arrests of three people and the seizure of almost 200 marijuana plants in the Region of Murcia
The National Police have made huge strides forward in stamping out drug trafficking in Cartagena this summer by arresting a total of 12 people, ten men and two women, all of Spanish nationality, in the course of several anti-narcotic operations in the municipality. One of the more impressive coups involved officers dismantling a drugs point of sale in the Santa Lucia area that had already been moved by the dealers in order to evade detection. Despite the drug sales operating out of a building with three security doors and external CCTV cameras, officers managed to track down the location and arrested four people as part of their search. In addition, quantities of cocaine, hashish and marijuana were seized along with two precision scales and more than 300 euros in cash.As is often the case with drug production, the first property investigated was illegally connected to the electricity supply network, and frequent power outages in the area caused by electrical overloads led police to the plantation. Here they discovered around 60 plants at different stages of growth, 10 kilos of buds and more than 1,100 euros in cash. Two buildings were investigated in the Peral district containing indoor plantations; here, thirty marijuana plants weighing almost nine kilos were confiscated, along with two air conditioning units, several fans and 15 high-power lamps. The final operation took place at the end of August in El Bohio, in which 100 marijuana plants weighing more than twenty kilos and 763 small plants in the first phase of growth were seized. Various amounts of buds and hashish were also discovered, as well as a vehicle and assorted electrical equipment for the production of narcotics. In total, the operations carried out by members of the Narcotics Group of the Cartagena National Police resulted in the seizure of almost 200 marijuana plants with a weight close to 30 kilos and 10 kilos of buds, and the arrest of 12 people for crimes of drug trafficking, crimes against public health and the fraudulent use of electricity.Image: Policia Nacional
