ARCHIVED - Uptick in new cases and hospitalisations: Valencia Covid update June 21
Covid data in Alicante province and the rest of the region is following the national trend
As the mercury rises and both national and international tourists make their welcome return to the Costa Blanca, the all important Covid data has experienced a steady uptick over the last two weeks.
Whilst the 14-day cumulative incidence rate amongst over 60s in the Valencia region remains below the national average (612.39 cases per 100,000) and currently stands at 402.45, new infections have risen by more than 800 in 14 days and there are now almost 130 more hospitalised patients than on June 7.
The regional Ministry of Health has confirmed 3,853 new cases since Friday June 17, up on the 3,144 infections reported seven days ago (also over a four-day period) and 3,019 new cases confirmed on June 7.
By provinces, 402 in Castellón (178,726 in total), 1,288 in Alicante (500,345 in total) and 2,163 in Valencia (779,946 in total).
Of these new cases, 1,834 are people over 60 years of age (a steady rise on the 1,522 reported on June 14 and 1,471 a fortnight ago): Of the new cases since last Friday, 223 are registered in Castellón, 644 in Alicante and 967 in Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 705 Covid patients in hospitals across the Valencia region, 129 more than seven days ago, 31 of them in the ICU (2 less): 99 in the province of Castellón, 2 in the ICU; 249 in the province of Alicante, 19 of them in the ICU; and 357 in the province of Valencia, 10 in the ICU.
Fatalities
Ten deaths have been reported since Friday June 17, all of which occurred within the last 15 days - 6 men aged between 65 and 88-years-old and four women aged between 74 and 91. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 9,496: 1,116 in the province of Castellón, 3,608 in Alicante and 4,772 in Valencia.
