VIDEOS: Snow in Murcia's mountains and more flooding on the coast
Heavy rains, snowfall and strong winds have affected the Region of Murcia this Wednesday
Altitud 1500 msnm. Vídeo: @JuanmaMoralejo. pic.twitter.com/GfTMs3LDZA

The DANA storm in Murcia this Wednesday November 13 has left significant rainfall in parts of the south and east of the Region, while the northern town of Moratalla witnessed its first snowfall of the season.
The rain was heaviest in Cartagena and Lorca. In Cartagena’s Rambla de Benipila, 30 litres of rainfall per square metre was recorded over a 12-hour period this Wednesday morning, while Lorca experienced a similar downpour, with 17 litres falling in one hour and 23.6 litres recorded in total.

Other areas, including Torre Pacheco, San Javier and Mazarrón, received between 14 and 22 litres, enough to cause minor localised flooding, particularly in Mazarrón’s Vía Axial.
Despite the intense rain overnight, Aemet (the State Meteorological Agency) has not issued any rain warnings for the Region today. However, a yellow warning for coastal conditions is active until mid-afternoon in the Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón, forecasting strong northeasterly winds of up to 60kmh and waves reaching three metres.
Cartagena’s City Council has activated pre-emergency protocols to mitigate risks from rough seas and high winds. Following the rains, Cartagena’s Local Police reopened the Camino del Sifón, a road linking Las Tejeras and Santa Ana, which had been closed due to flooding.
Municipal authorities have issued recommendations, advising residents to avoid jetties, beaches, breakwaters and any coastal areas where waves could impact public safety. Boat owners are urged to monitor their moorings, and drivers have been advised to avoid flooded areas, especially on routes like the Muelle de la Curra and the breakwater at Cabo de Palos.
Residents are also being advised to secure loose items on building facades, such as flowerpots, blinds and awnings, and to avoid walking near unstable walls or wooded areas where branches could fall due to high winds.
First snow of the season blankets Moratalla
In contrast to the rain in coastal areas, the far northwest of the Murcia saw its first snowfall of the season. Moratalla’s highest points, particularly around the Revolcadores massif and the Sierra de las Cabras, woke up to a wintry scene with roads and trees covered in snow.

This early snowfall at altitudes of between 1,500 and 1,700 metres has turned the landscape white, creating a picturesque, Christmas-like atmosphere. Snowfall in this part of Murcia is not uncommon in late autumn. In the surrounding areas, motorists are being advised to drive carefully on potentially icy roads.

Red alerts in other parts of Spain
Elsewhere in the country, Aemet has issued red weather alerts in Málaga and Tarragona due to extreme rain and possible storms.
Forecasts suggest up to 180 litres per square metre in Tarragona and 120 litres in Málaga’s Guadalhorce Valley. The Valencian Community and other parts of Andalucía are also under orange and yellow alerts for similar conditions, with significant rainfall anticipated across the east coast.
