ARCHIVED - Virtual reality classical music experience in Murcia city

Visitors can live the experience of being inside an orchestra in the ‘Symphony’ show, open until November 8
La Caixa Foundation and Murcia City Council have teamed up to present ‘Symphony’, a virtual journey into the heart of classical music. Thanks to the use of Virtual Reality technology, it promises to be a unique emotional experience that will provide visitors with a different sort of classical music experience than they might be used to.
For the first time in Murcia, spectators will be able to place themselves in the middle of a symphony orchestra and receive a full, immersive experience. The Symphony event premiered last September in Barcelona, and is now in Murcia as part of a tour that will cover 100 cities in Spain and Portugal over the next ten years. It came to Murcia city on Thursday October 14 and will run until Monday November 8.
Symphony is made up of two mobile lorries that open up to become two grand halls, each with 100 square metres of space. In the first one, there is a panoramic film on show that guides visitors on their journey through classical music using sounds alone. The second hall combines this with virtual reality, so that when you put on the special glasses you can find yourself in the Gran Teatro del Liceo, surrounded by the musicians of a symphony orchestra, all silent, waiting for the conductor’s cue. Suddenly, he bursts in with the first four notes of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, and the spectator is blasted into a world of sound and sensory wonder. Just by turning your head, you can see the musicians playing on the stage all around you.
The Symphony project is an educational, cultural and recreational experience designed for all audiences from the age of 8 upwards. Since it doesn’t require any physical movement by participants, it is suitable for everyone, although people with epilepsy or vertigo are advised to enter with caution.
Take this opportunity to visit a truly unique experiential event, and go along to the temporary exhibition centre on Avenida de la Libertad in Murcia, where the trucks will be stationed until November 8 2021.
