ARCHIVED ARTICLE
Various charities and associations in the Marina Alta, Alicante province, are looking for volunteers
Sunday December 5 was International Volunteer Day, an annual celebration of the selfless and tireless work carried out by millions of people worldwide whilst raising awareness about volunteering.
And closer to home, Teulada-Moraira Town Hall took the opportunity to "highlight the important work that volunteers do to make our world a better place".
Sara Richardson, Councillor for Volunteering, Social Welfare and Animal Welfare, is also encouraging all local residents to do their bit, as "this is a great way to help your neighbours, make new friends and learn new skills or hobbies".
"Working as a volunteer is not an easy task, but it is very rewarding, and in Tuelada-Moraira, there is a wide variety of ways to volunteer, including collaborating with organisations that directly help those who need it most," she added.
These volunteer opportunities include the following:
Akira - Teulada Moraira and Benissa Animal Protection Society (dogs)
Akira is looking for volunteers to walk and socialise the dogs, and for general help in the shelter from Monday to Sunday, 9.30am to 4pm, in Polígono Benissa. Volunteers are also needed to work in the charity shop in Avenida del Portet, Moraira. To find out more, call: 657 689 567 or visit www.akira-animals.com/
Pluto - Animal shelter which rescues abandoned cats and manages the municipal cat colony programme
Pluto is recruiting volunteers to provide food and care for the cat colonies as well as to provide foster homes. The non-profit organisation also needs support at its shop 'Moda y Mas', Carretera Moraira-Calpe 294.
Teulada Charity Association raises funds to help other voluntary organisations such as Civil Protection and the gender violence shelter in Pedreguer.
The association is looking for people to work in its charity shop located in Avenida Mediterráneo 183, from Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 1pm, (each volunteer will be asked to work one or two mornings a week). Call Pat on 622 921 812 to find out more.
The Lions
The Lions raise money which is then donated to those most in need within the local community. The organisation also offers help and support to the young, old, sick, bereaved and those affected by disasters and emergencies.
Volunteers are being sought to work in the 'Lion's Den' shop at the Centro Comercial Moraira, Carretera Moraira-Teulada, Monday to Saturday, 10am to 1pm, and to help at events. Anybody interested in getting involved can contact The Lions via the website: https://www.tmlions.com or by email: tmlions.president@gmail.com.
