Wave of storms descends this week: Spain weather forecast March 10-13
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The heaviest rainfall will hit the southwest of Spain with Andalucía and Murcia on alert for storms
Weather outlook on Tuesday March 11
We might be edging towards the middle of March but the unsettled weather shows no signs of abating and Spain looks set for yet another wet and windy week. Although storm Jana is already losing strength, it will be replaced with a new chain of smaller storms that will keep rainfall levels very high, especially in the west of the country.
Daytime temperatures will remain rather cool this week, but that is mostly due to the rain and some biting winds. Having said that, the thermometers will still inch close to 20ºC in parts of the Mediterranean coast.
Monday March 10
Storm Jana will continue to influence the weather on Monday, with overcast skies and widespread rainfall expected. This could be accompanied by hail or thunderstorms in the southwest, with the heaviest rain forecast in Cadiz.
Daytime temperatures should increase very slightly compared to the weekend, hovering around 17ºC or 18ºC in most areas of southern Spain.
Yellow alerts for heavy downpours and/or dangerous sea conditions have been activated in Andalucía, the Balearic Islands, Castilla y Leon, Extremadura and the Region of Murcia.
Tuesday March 11
Although Jana will weaken considerably as it moves away over the Mediterranean, Tuesday is still expected to be very wet thanks to the arrival of a new storm front from the west.
The rainfall will become more scattered in the afternoon and most places can expect plenty of sunny spells later in the day.
Maximum temperatures will approach 20ºC in the likes of Alicante and Malaga.
Yellow weather warnings for heavy downpours and/or dangerous sea conditions remain in place in Andalucía, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community.
Wednesday March 12
The arrival of a new low in the west of Spain will introduce a humid air mass that will leave the skies very cloudy or overcast. The rain will still be widespread but it should be much lighter on the northern Mediterranean coasts. On the other hand, the downpours will be heavy and persistent in the entire southwest.
Daytime temperatures will drop in the south with few changes expected elsewhere.
Yellow alerts for strong winds have been issued in Andalucía, the Valencian Community and Catalonia.
Thursday March 13
A low pressure system positioned right over Spain will result in more cloudy or overcast skies on Thursday. The showers will be less frequent on the eastern coast but the rain will be very heavy in most of southern Spain, where it could take the form of storms and hail.
Daytime temperatures will continue to fall in the southwest, where the worst of the weather is due to hit.
For the time being, there are no weather alerts on Thursday.
