The Valencian Government has all but abolished the Covid passport along with lifting capacity and limitations in bars
Hot on the heels of confirmation the Valencia Government is scrapping the Covid passport, with the exception of accessing residences, from Tuesday February 22, the Ministry of Health has confirmed the lowest number of weekend cases since early December.
The number of infections since Friday resemble figures most recently seen over a 24-hour period, and are accompanied by a drop in hospital admissions, critically-ill patients, Covid-related deaths and the all important incidence rate, which now stands at 1,239 case per 100,000 people.
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 5,948 new Covid cases in today's update – the lowest weekend data since before Christmas. This brings the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,275,179.
By province: 563 have been recorded in Castellón (154,780 in total), 1,799 in Alicante (446,986), 3,586 in Valencia (673,406).There are still seven unassigned cases.
According to the health data, there are currently 53,846 active cases, which represent 4.19% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,117 people admitted to hospital with Covid, a healthy decrease from the 1,181 reported on Friday February 18, 112 of them in ICU (12 less): 151 in the province of Castellón, 11 in ICU; 344 in the province of Alicante, 35 in ICU; and 622 in the province of Valencia, 66 in ICU..
14,283 people have overcome the virus since the last update, which means the total number of recoveries since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,223,827.
By provinces, the recoveries are distributed as follows:149,317 in Castellón, 430,256 in Alicante and 644,194 in Valencia. There remains 60 unassigned cases.
Fatalities
Seven Covid-related deaths have been reported since Friday, significantly lower than number of fatalities reported on a daily basis over the last two months. All of the deaths occurred in the last seven days and bring the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 8,947: 1,032 in the province of Castellón, 3,414 in Alicante and 4,501 in Valencia.
The deceased are five men aged between 83 and 99, and four women between 63 and 90-years-old.
