€10 Menu del Día The Tennis Club restaurant in Totana serves up an ace lunch!
- Lunchtime Menu del Día just 10 euros
Plus - A La Carte - All day tapas
The tennis club just outside Totana on the old Lorca road between Totana and Lorca is an attractive lunch or dinner option not only for those looking to hone their racket skills in the leafy environment of the foothills of the Sierra Espuña, but also for a good lunch in a friendly atmosphere at the family-run onsite restaurant.
The restaurant is located in the centre of the seven tennis courts and two paddle tennis courts at the club, which is reached by heading out of Totana towards Lorca on the old main road (the N-340) and turning right just before a large glass-fronted machinery retail showroom called Ibarra. This is the Carretera Barcelona a Cadiaz, and the tennis club is 100 metres up the road.
This really is a typical Spanish family restaurant. Mother takes charge in the kitchen, while a husband and wife team offer a warm, friendly welcome in the restaurant and café-bar area. The daily Menu del Día is attractively priced at just 10 euros, including a drink, a choice of house desserts and coffee, and menus are offered from Monday to Friday. A la carte and tapas every day, evenings and weekends.
All the dishes are made using local ingredients and to traditional family recipes, with generous portions meaning nobody leaves this restaurant hungry.
Á la carte menu options are also available, with a well-selected range of popular Spanish meat and fish options, and a selection of tapas dishes, snacks and drinks are served all day from 11.00, when the bar and restaurant open. The kitchen is closed on Sunday evenings.
Many will prefer to sit outside on the partially shaded terrace, admiring not only the skills of those on court but also the panoramic views over the Guadalentín valley and out towards the Sierra de las Moreras and the Mazarrón area.
Group and party bookings are also taken, and prior booking is also recommended for the house special of paella.
Children are welcome at the tennis club and in the restaurant – there is a children’s playground alongside - and although there is no set children’s menu the kitchen staff are happy to provide for younger visitors.
Access to the restaurant is relatively easy for those of limited mobility as the whole premises are on one level (including the terrace), and car parking spaces are immediately next to the entrance. This friendly restaurant is of course an attractive option for tennis and paddle tennis players, but it also has to be stressed that the majority of the customers are not actually players. There is no obligation whatsoever to work up an appetite on court before enjoying the set menus and á la carte options in these pleasant surroundings!
