MurciAventuraS, rafting on the River Segura and other adventure sports in the Ricote valley

MurciAventuraS is an outdoor activity group offering a range of adventures on, in and around the River Segura in the Ricote valley, one of the greenest and most picturesque areas of the Region of Murcia.

The group specializes in rafting descents of the river, and also offers kayaking, canoeing and banana boat descents, but the range of activities also includes various on land (such as rock climbing, via ferrata routes, dry and wet canyoning, caving, potholing, orienteering, mountain biking and buggy and 4-by-4 tours) and even in the air: for the more adventurous bungee jumping can be enjoyed (if that’s the word!) at one of the bridges over the Segura river as it flows through the Ricote valley.

All of these activities are undertaken with the aim of spreading the word about this part of the Region of Murcia, and full insurance and equipment hire is included.

One of the most popular outings among the clients of MurciAventuraS is rafting, an activity which requires teamwork and is therefore ideal for group excursions. The rafts follow a 14-kilometre route from Cieza to Blanca (where MurciAventuraS is based), and although no prior experience is required a briefing is held to familiarize participants with some of the basic techniques.

Groups then enjoy the spectacular landscape in this part of the River Segura, and the whole experience lasts three or four hours, usually costing 45 euros for adults. This includes bus transfer from Blanca to the starting point, a snack during a midway stop in Abarán, showers and changing rooms on the return to Blanca, full insurance cover, life jackets, helmets, wet suits if required, the services of fully qualified monitors, a photo and video report of the trip and refreshments. All you need to take along is drinking water, sun cream, a change of clothes and a towel, in the certain knowledge that you will not be returning to base dry!

Children are welcome (although this is not appropriate for the very young), and the monitors speak enough English to make sure that there is no language barrier at any point during the day!

A similar level of equipment is provided for the other adventure activities organized: for example, to take part in the buggy tours all you need is a type B driver’s licence, comfortable clothing, sunglasses, a neckerchief (because of the dust) and for co-pilots to be at least 1 metre 25 tall, although those following the “Fuente Caputa” route during the summer will probably want to take along a towel for a refreshing tip in a natural spring along the way! Buggy routes start at just 74 euros for a 90-minute trip, and again no previous experience is required and insurance and almost all necessary equipment are included.

Even for kayaking descents of the river no great level of expertise is needed although of course a certain degree of fitness is a must, and it is only for activities such as climbing and potholing that differing degrees of proficiency are needed.
