Águilas property: Isla del Fraile Resort
Isla del Fraile enjoys a spectacular location just east of the town of Águilas
The residential property development of Isla del Fraile Resort is one of the most spectacular along the coastline of the Region of Murcia, as although it is far from being the largest it enjoys one of the most unusual locations of all of the resort-style projects which were built in the first years of this century.
The resort is perched on either side of the mountains just east of the town of Águilas, and lies on the southern side of the road to Calabardina. From here the visible part of Isla del Fraile resort consists mostly of attractively designed apartments with pleasant green areas and communal swimming pools, although there are also individual villas.
But there’s more. The winding road continues steeply up and over the mountains, where another block of terraced apartments is located on the steep rock face looking out towards the Isla del Fraile itself and the Mediterranean. The views from this area are fabulous, and at the bottom of the road is the Playa Amarilla, a small beach which can only be accessed through the resort and from the sea. Again, some individual chalets stand alongside the apartments which constitute the majority of property on Isla del Fraile Resort.
It’s clear from the layout of the development that originally far more property was planned, but as the market slumped after 2007 it seems that later phases have been either abandoned or postponed.
For those who believe that location is everything Isla del Fraile resort will certainly be very attractive, but location always comes at a price and in this case the price is lack of immediate amenities on the resort itself. There are no shops or restaurants on the development, and similarly chemists and other amenities are mostly located in Águilas itself, a ten-minute drive away. The Águilas Plaza shopping centre on the eastern edge of the town is slightly closer and makes it unnecessary to go into the centre in order to shop, and there are also eating establishments along the RM-D14 Águilas-Calabardina road.
Similarly, although the beach of Playa Amarilla (and the smaller one of El Cigarro) are close at hand, the nature of the road leading to them is such that it’s far from being a gentle stroll: all but the fittest bathers will want to take motor transport down to the water’s edge.
Águilas, however, is blessed with an extensive collection of beautiful beaches, all within a short drive of the urbanisation.
