ARCHIVED - Covid Incidence rate in Andalusia region drops to 193 after one week with interprovincial movement: May 6
ARCHIVED ARTICLE The latest covid data for the eight provinces of the Andalucía region show a slight easing in the number of new cases from a week ago
On Thursday, May 6, the Andalusian regional health service has reported a total 1,434 cases of coronavirus and ten deaths within the latest 24 hour period.
This figure is higher than the 1,222 reported on Wednesday, but after the first week of interprovincial mobility with travel permitted between the eight provinces of the region, is lower than the 1,698 reported seven days ago.
The pattern of new cases in the region is pointing towards a certain stability and the figures certainly appear to be heading downwards, albeit slowly, looking at the last week: Last Thursday the figure was 1,698; 1,604 on Friday; 1,356 on Saturday; 1,706 for Monday and Sunday; 1,012 on Tuesday; 1,222 on Wednesday and now 1,434 for Thursday.
By provinces, Seville has once again added the highest number of infections with 378, followed by Granada with 345, Malaga with 259, Huelva with 120, Jaén with 106, Córdoba with 104 and Cádiz with 100. Only Almería has reported below the hundred cases mark, with 22.
The clearest indicator of the evolution of the pandemic is the cumulative incidence rate which measures the number of cases per 100,000 of the population over 14 and seven days.
Nationally the 14-day rate has now fallen to 205 cases per 100,000 and as of Thursday the rate in Andalucía has dropped for the sixteenth consecutive day and now stands at 193.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. This is a fall of 4.6 points from the Wednesday figure and 32.5 points below the figure registered last Thursday, so clearly shows a slow decrease in new cases, in line with the national average.
The graph below relates to the data from May 5 (always published one day later), but clearly shows the downward movement:
To compare, the lowest rate is in the Valencia region, where there are just 42 cases per 100,000, but well below the Basque Country with 478, Madrid with 329 and Navarra with 313.
The data is compiled by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA), which has also reported ten deaths for the latest 24 hour period, five less than on Wednesday but one more than last Thursday.
Within the last 24 hours, Almería and Granada have each reported three deaths, Jaén, Málaga, Seville and Cádiz, have each registered one death and both Córdoba and Huelva have not reported any covid-related fatalities.
There are currently 271 patients in Andalusian hospitals with more serious cases of Covid and 34 in intensive care, but as the graph above clearly shows, the hospital situation is improving.
Part of this is undoubtedly due to the slow progress of the vaccination campaign: 1,011,554 Andalucians have been given two doses of their respective vaccines and have full immunity and 2,182,163 Andalucians have been given at least one dose accounting for 31 per cent of the adult population of the region.
This week the region has received nearly 600,000 doses of vaccines.
