The week promises to be mostly overcast throughout Spain with scattered showers

After a decidedly autumnal weekend, the coming week is expected to be largely settled with no further thunder storms forecast along the Mediterranean coast. An anticyclone sweeping across the north of Spain will ramp up daytime temperatures considerably while a lack of cloud cover at night will send the thermometers plummeting.

Some instability will remain in the south of Spain throughout the week, bringing lower temperatures and some rain.

Monday September 19

The worst of the storms on Monday will be confined to Extremadura and the southern half of Castilla y León, with the rest of the country beginning rather cloudy. It will become more overcast in inland areas as the day goes on and there is a chance of light, isolated showers in most areas.

Daytime temperatures are on the rise in the east and will drop in the southwest, while a northeastern wind will bring an evening chill to Galicia, Cantabria and the southern half of the Mediterranean coast.

There is a yellow weather warning in place for heavy rain and storms in Castilla y León, Extremadura and Madrid.

Alicante: 20ºC; 29ºC

Almeria: 22ºC; 31ºC

Malaga: 21ºC; 28ºC

Murcia: 21ºC; 30ºC

Tuesday September 20

There are no weather alerts set for Tuesday but Aemet has warned of the chance of locally strong storms in Extremadura and northwest Andalucia. The day will begin clear enough but the clouds will spread to most of the country in the afternoon, becoming more overcast in the south.

Very little change to daytime temperatures although a slight dip could be felt in the south, while night-time temperatures will drop throughout Spain.

Alicante: 19ºC; 29ºC

Almeria: 20ºC; 29ºC

Malaga: 20ºC; 27ºC

Murcia: 19ºC; 30ºC

Wednesday September 21

Dry and stable weather is expected in the northern part of the country, with a predominance of slightly cloudy skies. However, in the centre and south, an incoming low front will bring abundant clouds and the possibility of afternoon showers and storms. These are more likely inland and will be strongest once more in Extremadura and northern Andalucia, while the extreme southeast will miss the worst.

The rain pattern will move from west to east as the day goes on, so showers are expected by the evening in the Balearic Islands and along the Gulf of Valencia.

Maximum temperatures will take another slight drop across Spain, most noticeable in the southwest, while a northerly wind should bring the night-time temperatures down another notch.

Almeria: 20ºC; 29ºC

Malaga: 20ºC; 27ºC

Murcia: 19ºC; 30ºC

Thursday September 22

The outlook becomes a bit more unstable on Thursday, with locally strong showers and storms forecast again in the western Balearic Islands and around the Gulf of Valencia. The east of the country will remain mostly dry with scattered showers and the day will be primarily overcast in most areas.

It will be foggy start to the day along the Andalucian Mediterranean coast with the thermometers on the rise in eastern Cantabria. The mercury will fall in a large part of the east but remain mostly unchanged in the rest of the country.

Almeria: 19ºC; 27ºC

Malaga: 19ºC; 26ºC

Murcia: 19ºC; 28ºC
