A weekend of sunshine and showers: Spain weather forecast March 21-24
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The weather over the coming weekend will be very changeable in Spain, with a mix of rain and sun
Weather outlook on Saturday March 23
The stormy front that’s covered Spain for the last few days will move away towards the Canary Islands as we approach the weekend, leaving behind mostly sunny skies and pleasantly warm temperatures inland, although it will be noticeably cooler along the coast.
As the days go by though, an incoming front will bring scattered rain to northern Spain, and this could spread to the Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands on Saturday and Sunday. Towards the end of the weekend the temperatures will drop sharply too, pulling the mercury right down from the mid-20s temperatures we’ve been experiencing of late.
Thursday March 21
Cloudy skies will cover most of the country on Thursday with a chance of rain and even some stormy intervals in western Andalucía. The day will begin very overcast in the north and northwest, as well as along the southern coasts, leading to patchy fog and mist.
Daytime temperatures will decrease in the southeast of Spain and the Canary Islands, while rising in the rest, particularly in western Galicia and around Jaén.
Friday March 22
The DANA will shift towards the Canary Islands, bringing cloudy skies and showers, with a chance of strong storms in the north of the islands. The rest of mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands will experience more stable weather, with partly cloudy skies and occasional sunny spells.
Maximum temperatures will decrease in the Cantabrian Sea, northern Galicia and the Canary Islands, but the thermometers will jump up in the rest of the country, notably in areas of the southwest. Minimums will also increase, except in the Canary Islands and inland Spain.
Saturday March 23
A DANA will once again impact the Canary Islands on Saturday, causing cloudy skies and showers, with a chance of strong storms and locally heavy rainfall. The rest of the country will see a mix of sun and clouds, with a slight chance of light rain in the southeast.
Temperature drops are expected in the northern half of the country, while the south may see a slight increase. Frosts are possible in the Pyrenees, and may occur in isolation in the Cantabrian mountain range.
Sunday March 24
The DANA that previously affected the Canary Islands is expected to move away from the archipelago on Sunday. Intervals of medium and high clouds are predicted for the southern part of Spain and the Balearic Islands, with a possibility of isolated dry storms or light rain showers in Murcia, Andalucía and the Valencian Community.
Temperatures will fall across the board, with a more noticeable decline in the Mediterranean area. Slight increases are expected in the Canary Islands.
