ARCHIVED - Active covid cases in Murcia region back to levels of July 2020
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The number of patients receiving hospital treatment has increased slightly
The Easter weekend is over and within the next few days it will become obvious if the restrictive measures on travel around Spain during the Easter break has resulted in increased transmissions, but as the week concludes in the Murcia region, there are indications that a slight rise in infections is already underway.
During the last week the number of active cases of covid has fallen from 689 to 597, taking the region back to approximately the same point as during July last year, when the number of new cases reported was consistently well under 100 a day. At that point the first wave was over and the second had yet to begin, but the virus continued to circulate and duplicate.
Throughout last week the number of new cases reported daily remained below 100, apart from last Monday when the figure exceeded 100, and the latest figure reported on Sunday which relates to Saturday, is 82.
Of the 82 new cases, 26 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 16 to Cartagena, 6 to Calasparra, 5 to Cieza, 5 to Puerto Lumbreras, 4 to San Javier, 3 to Los Alcázares, 3 to Molina de Segura. The remainder are spread around the region in various locations.
Although the figures are generally lower at the weekend due to less personnel working in testing centres, 1654 tests were carried out to generate this figure, yielding a positivity rate of 4.95 per cent, double the rate recorded the previous week.
Hospital admissions: In spite of the lower number of new cases, the week concluded with a higher number of hospital admissions than at the beginning of the previous week and a slight increase in new admissions over the weekend; on Sunday there were 95 patients in hospital as opposed to 90 on Saturday and 92 a week ago, with 32 in intensive care 8 a fall from the 38 of the previous week).
There was one fatality within the last 24 hours, a 78-year-old man, bringing the total to 12 within the last week and the total to 1571 since the crisis began.
A total of 108,632 people have been infected with coronavirus in the Region of Murcia. 106,464 have been cured, with a total of 94 patients having been discharged within the last 24 hour period. The Epidemiology Service of the Ministry of Health has carried out 976,990 PCR tests since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 105,223 antibody tests
