ARCHIVED - Alicante set to sizzle in mid-summer temperatures: weekend weather outlook April 27-30
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The mercury will peak on Saturday April 29 with highs of 38ºC in parts of the Vega Baja region of Alicante province
April is well on its way to being the hottest ever recorded in Alicante, with the first heatwave of the year seeing thermometers reach the mid-30s. And things are only going to get warmer as a hot and dry air mass over the country continues to push the mercury to unseasonably high levels.
The Vega Baja region of Alicante province will feel the intensity of the heat to a greater degree, particularly on Saturday when highs of 38ºC are forecast.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), despite the fact that the values reached in the coastal area of the Valencia Region are not as high as in the interior, we are facing average temperatures more typical of early July". And the heatwave looks set to continue into May.
"We may be facing the warmest episode recorded in April in the region since at least 1950," add the experts.
Low cloud is forecast on Thursday April 27 with mist in coastal and pre-coastal areas, without ruling out a fog bank. Significantly high temperatures inland for the time of year will see thermometers hover between 25 and 31ºC, and a light variable wind across the board will tend towards easterly from mid-afternoon.

Alicante: 15ºC to 25ºC
Denia: 13ºC to 25ºC
Elche: 13ºC to 28ºC
Orihuela: 13ºC to 30ºC
Intervals of medium and high cloud are likely on Friday morning, April 28, and the mercury will continue to rise. A blustery northeasterly wind on the coast will ease in the afternoon while inland areas can expect a light variable wind tending towards southerly from midday.

Alicante: 17ºC to 27ºC

Morning cloudy intervals will give way to clear skies on Saturday April 29, although mist is also likely in coastal areas. Temperatures will increase significantly, both at night and during the day, particularly in the south of the province. A light variable wind will be accompanied by welcome sea breezes on the coast in the afternoon; during the central hours a westerly wind will increase inland, occasionally becoming strong. And strong gusts are not ruled out in northern inland areas.

Alicante: 19ºC to 32ºC

Sunday April 30 will get off to a cloudy start, with possible mist in the north where occasional showers have not been ruled out.
