The latest news comes courtesy of easyJet, which will start flights to and from Athens at the beginning of the 2025 summer season.
This connection with the popular Greek city will vastly improve Alicante’s international offerings, giving the intrepid traveller yet another option to explore.
The new Athens-Alicante connection will add approximately 18,000 additional seats to the capacity already planned by easyJet for the summer of 2025.
This route, which will begin operating on March 31, will have two weekly flights.
In the words of easyJet's managing director for Southern Europe, Javier Gándara: “We are excited to announce 12 new routes for the 2025 summer season in Spain, a strategic market in which we have been growing over time and where we remain alert to opportunities to continue doing so.
“These new routes allow us to connect cities in high demand, offering our passengers more travel options and opportunities to explore different corners of Europe and beyond.
“The new routes that we are putting on sale today are part of our commitment to continue strengthening air connectivity in Spain and our desire to continue responding to what our customers ask of us.”
In addition to Alicante, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca airports are also celebrating wins this week, with a total of 3 news routes each from 2025.
Next summer, Málaga-Costa del Sol airport will gain more than 62,000 additional seats through new connections to Newcastle, operational from March 31, as well as to Leeds Bradford (from April 2) and Morocco (from April 4).
On the other hand, passengers will have the option of flying from Palma to Leeds Bradford from April 2, Strasbourg from June 4 and Palermo from June 23.
The Andalucían city of Almería has added a new route to London Luton (from June 1) with more than 14,000 seats.
Since easyJet started operations in Spain 28 years ago, the airline has transported more than 220 million passengers to and from the country and has grown to connect Spain with Europe and the United Kingdom through multiple routes.
It currently has four Spanish bases: Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga and Alicante.
