ARCHIVED ARTICLE
Yellow weather warnings have been put in place for Friday and into Saturday in Málaga and along the coast
Andalucía is expecting strong easterly winds (the so-called Levante) all day on Friday December 17 and even into the early hours of Saturday morning in some areas of the Costa del Sol, Costa de Almería, Costa Tropical and Costa de la Luz.
Weather in Málaga
Málaga is set for an abrupt change of weather this weekend as the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) was planning to activate two yellow warnings for adverse weather conditions on the Costa del Sol this Friday, which has been upgraded to orange.
Specifically, the yellow warnings, which affect the Sol, Guadalhorce and Axarquia areas of Málaga, will be active from 12am on Friday until 8pm, with extremely strong east and northeasterly winds of force 7 expected, bringing waves of up to three metres in height.
Orange level warnings have already been activated in these areas for today, Thursday December 16, which were expected to be downgraded for the weekend, but as of Friday morning the orange alert still remains in place.
For the start of the weekend, light cloudy skies are forecast, although weak and occasional rainfall is not ruled out, more likely in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar.
Temperatures, meanwhile, will either remain largely unchanged or minimum temperatures will rise slightly. Winds from the east, with strong intervals on the Mediterranean coast.
Weather in Almería, Granada and Cádiz
Aemet will also activate other yellow warnings for Friday along the Andalusian coastal provinces of Granada, Cádiz and Almería. Strong easterly winds in the Strait of Gibraltar with very strong gusts.
In Poniente, Almería capital city and Costa in the province of Almería, the warning will be active until 12am on Saturday December 18, as well as on the coast of Cádiz, the Strait of Cádiz and the coast of Granada.
On the Mediterranean coast, cloudy skies are expected, but their may be some weak and occasional rainfall, more likely in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar and the eastern part of Andalucía. Temperatures are expected to remain unchanged or even to rise. Winds will come from the east, with strong intervals on the Mediterranean coast.
