Andalusia weekend weather forecast January 11-14: Mostly dry and sunny
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
This weekend represents a dry – if somewhat cloudy – break between the rains of earlier in the week and those to come next week
Andalucía weather forecast, Saturday January 13
The weekend weather forecast for the southern Spanish autonomous community of Andalucía is for dry and sunny conditions with just a little cloud cover and some isolated showers still hanging on after the rains that fell as part of the DANA storm that crossed Spain earlier this week.
For Thursday January 11, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts, “Morning cloudy skies in the interior, with probable light rainfall in [the Sierra de] Cazorla [in Jaén], becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Elsewhere, partly cloudy skies, increasing to cloudy in the afternoon in Almería and the Mediterranean coast, with light rainfall not ruled out. Morning mist or fog on the Atlantic side. Snow cover between 1200-1400 metres. Minimum temperatures in decline, with weak frosts in the interior of the eastern third; maximum temperatures with little change. Light to moderate northerly winds, tending to easterly during the day on the Mediterranean coast. Moderate westerlies in the Strait of Gibraltar, becoming easterly by the end of the day.”

On the next day, they predict “Cloudy skies on the Mediterranean slope, with the possibility of light rainfall in the first half of the day; partly cloudy in the rest of the day. Minimum temperatures unchanged, except for an increase in Cádiz; maximum temperatures decreasing on the Mediterranean slope and increasing in the rest. Weak to moderate frosts in the eastern interior. Winds from the east, light inland and moderate along the coast. Strong easterly winds in the Strait of Gibraltar with very strong gusts.”

Saturday 13 should be cloudy in the morning too, with high cloud cover across most of the region for the rest of the day. Once again there will be “strong easterly winds in the Strait of Gibraltar, decreasing during the day” and temperatures will either remain unchanged or go up slightly before the real rise in temperatures on Sunday 14, when Aemet says the increase in temperatures will be “noticeable locally”. In fact, it will be in excess of 20ºC at the height of the day in many parts of Andalucía, and even into the high teens in the traditionally cooler northern and mountainous areas.

Looking ahead to next week, it won’t be quite so warm and in fact there will be much more cloud cover, especially in the inland areas, while next Wednesday January 17 will bring pouring rains to the western half of the region.
