Another unstable but drier week ahead: Alicante weather outlook June 5-8
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Afternoon thunderstorms are still likely in much of Alicante province until Thursday June 8
The weather will continue to be unstable in much of Alicante province this week, although with a lower risk of the heavy downpours the region has experienced since May 18.
However, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has forecast a continuation of the afternoon thunderstorms that have also made their presence felt almost uninterruptedly since the middle of last month.
On the plus side, the probability of precipitation is much lower than of late, and on Tuesday, it looks as though those umbrellas can be left at home, albeit briefly. The mercury will also creep up, reaching highs of 30ºC in parts on Thursday.
Monday June 5 is likely to follow the same pattern as the last few days: clear skies in the early hours of the morning, with cloud in the afternoon, showers, and a "high risk" of thunderstorms, particularly in inland areas, which could be locally strong. Temperatures will top out at around 27ºC in the Vega Baja area, and feel cooler in the likes of Alcoy, with highs of 22ºC forecast. A light variable wind will be predominantly easterly in the afternoon.
Alcoy: 15ºC to 22ºC
Alicante: 19ºC to 25ºC
Denia: 16ºC to 25ºC
Elche: 16ºC to 26ºC
Orihuela: 16ºC to 27ºC
Moving into Tuesday June 6 and the probability of rain is reduced significantly, with less than a 50% chance of precipitation in most of the province, which according to Aemet means "it's likely it won't rain at all". Expect cloudy intervals in coastal and pre-coastal areas in the morning, and further inland in the afternoon. Temperatures may rise slightly or remain unchanged, and a light easterly wind is forecast.
Alcoy: 14ºC to 24ºC
Alicante: 19ºC to 26ºC
Denia: 17ºC to 26ºC
Elche: 17ºC to 26ºC
Orihuela: 16ºC to 27ºC
The outlook for Wednesday June 7 is pretty similar, with intervals of low clouds and possible mist at the beginning of the day, tending to cloudy skies from south to north throughout the morning. However, weak and scattered showers are likely in the afternoon, more abundant in the south. The mercury will fall by up to 4-5ºC in some parts during the day, accompanied by a light easterly wind, turning to light southerly during the evening.
Alcoy: 14ºC to 20ºC
Alicante: 20ºC to 25ºC
Denia: 17ºC to 24ºC
Elche: 18ºC to 24ºC
Orihuela: 18ºC to 23ºC
Following a cloudy start to Thursday June 8, showers are likely in the afternoon, along with thunderstorms inland and in northern areas, although Aemet has warned they could spread to the rest of the province. Temperatures will rise with highs of 30ºC forecast in Orihuela, and a variable wind will become more easterly from mid-afternoon.
