Rural festive celebrations from La Costera to Gebas and El Berro!

As well as the main program of events during Christmas and the New Year in Alhama de Murcia, the Town Hall has scheduled various in the outlying districts of the municipality, from the mountains of Sierra Espuña to the fertile valley of the Guadalentín.

One of the highlights is the open-air representation of the nativity play “Auto de los Reyes Magos”, which takes place every year at various locations of the village of El Berro and starts residents of the area.

The full official program is as follows:

EL BERRO (based at the Asociación de Mujeres El Abedul)

Until December 10: Christmas card competition, in which the chosen entry will be the design used to wish everyone in the village and on social media a Happy Christmas. Under 18s only!

December 10 and 11

11.00: Christmas market in the village.

Monday December 21

17.00: A musical parade in the village featuring the music school and the “cuadrilla” folk music and dance group.

20.00: The same groups perform in the church of El Berro.

Saturday December 24, Christmas Eve

Mother Christmas visits the village with surprises for local residents.

20.00: Christmas Mass with music by the Cuadrilla de El Berro and the music school in the church.

Sunday December 25, Christmas Day

17.30: The Cuadrilla de El Berro and the music school perform again, this time in the Casa de la Cultura.

Sunday January 1, New Year’s Day

12.30: New Year’s Mass with music by the Cuadrilla de El Berro and the music school in the church.

Tuesday January 3

17.00: Recycled dolls workshop for children in the Casa de Cultura.

Thursday January 5

16.00: The Three Kings parade with their Royal Pages, accompanied by the Cuadrilla de El Berro and the music school. As they do so they will be ready to receive present letters from children, and gifts will be given out after the parade while everyone enjoys the traditional Roscón de Reyes cake.

Friday January 6

11.00: The annual performance of the AUTO DE LOS REYES MAGOS, followed by a THree Kings Mass.

Saturday December 10

18.00: Official opening of the nativity scene of the Asociación de Vecinos de Gebas in the Salón Social de Gebas.

Sunday December 18

10.30: A country walk and a picnic at the Mirador de Gebas, setting out from the Salón Social.

Sunday December 25, Christmas Day

12.30: Christmas Mass with choral music by Edad de Oro in the church of Gebas.

13.30: A glass of wine is offered to attendees in the Salón Social.

Monday December 26

17.00: Christmas sweets workshop for children in the Salón Social.

Friday December 30

19.00: Cinema and popcorn in the Salón Social.

Monday January 2

17.00: Rodolfo el Reno, a children’s workshop in the Salón Social.

Friday January 6

17.00: Story-telling for all the family in the Salón Social, followed by the arrival of the Three Kings and Roscón de Reyes for all.

12.00: The bells toll in the church of La Molata celebrating the arrival of Christmas.

13.00: Choral Christmas Mass with the Cuadrilla de La Costera in the church of La Molata.

13.30: Prize draw for a Christmas hamper at the church of La Molata.

21.00: Music in the Salón Social by Paco Bitagora, followed by hot chocolate and churros for all attendees and another Christmas hamper prize draw.

Sunday January 1, New Year’s Day

12.00: The bells toll in the church of La Molata celebrating the New Year.

13.00: New Year’s Mass at the church of La Molata.

Wednesday January 4

21.00: The Three Kings visit Las Cañadas bringing gifts for all the children. Music by Dío Yomale in the Salón Social, followed by Roscón de Reyes and cider for all.

Saturday January 14

12.00: The annual Boys v. Girls football match at the sports court in La Molata.

Saturday December 17

12.00: Official opening of the nativity scene of La Costera in the church of San Pedro.

Sunday December 18

12.30: The Cuadrilla de La Costera perform at the Local Social, Teleclub de La Costera.

Friday December 23

20.00: Christmas Bolos Huertanos tournament at the back of the Local Social.

Sunday December 25, Christmas Day

17.00: Choral Christmas Mass with the Cuadrilla de La Costera at the church of San Pedro.

18.30: Christmas bingo to raise funds for Asociación Princesa Rett at the Local Social, Teleclub de La Costera.

17.00: Chidlren’s Christmas tree workshop at the Teleclub La Costera.

Thursday January 5

22.00: Three Kings party with music from Dúo Nueva Reta at the Local Social, Teleclub de La Costera, including a draw for two hampers.

Friday January 6

12.30: The Three Kings visit La Costera bearing gifts for all the children at the Local Social Teleclub de La Costera.

Sunday January 8

9.30: A family run in the foothills of the Sierra de Carrascoy, including guide and snack. Three minutes separate each group’s start on a 4-kilometre route.

11.00: Choral Christmas Mass in the church of El Cañarico.

17.00: Gingerbread biscuit workshop for children in the Salón Social.

Alhama de Murcia Tourist information office is located on the edge of the Plaza de la Constitución, just a few metres away from the underground car park and the Town hall of Alhama de Murcia.

The tourist office offers free guided audiotours in English which take visitors around the historical sites of interest in Alhama. These be loaned at any time, although allow an hour and a half to complete the tour, and when loaning the audio equipment visitors are asked to leave passports or ID cards with the tourist office.

The office also carries a full range of leaflets for the archaeological museum of Los Baños, which is built around the historic spa which gives Alhama its name, and the mountains of Sierra Espuña, which is also an important area within the municipality of Alhama. Areas such as El Berro and Gebas have a number of interesting routes which can be followed and there are several picnic areas and good walking routes within the Sierra Espuña natural park.

The tourist office also carries leaflets for the many cultural events and fiestas which take place in Alhama throughout the year, including Los Mayos, Semana Santa, Christmas,the Romería of La Candelaria and the Auto de los Reyes Magos in El Berro.
