New golf course manager provides an update on the future plans for the Alhama Signature Golf Course

The Manager of the Alhama Signature Golf, Lola López Martínez, has issued an update on the future plans for the golf course and other areas of the project taken over by Alhama Healthy Living SL and Alhama Nature SL

On March 13th the Alhama Nature Resort Project was officially presented in the Town Hall of Alhama de Murcia, with a presentation of the different aspects involved in this unique development in the Mediterranean. This project will include the construction of more than 1,000 homes as well as the Alhama Signature Golf Club House, a hotel with 400 beds and 6 football pitches which will complete the sports, tourism and real estate project.

Regarding maintenance, new tee markers have been introduced (the black bars) on the course, allowing players to tee off from any bar they wish. Also work is being done on the natural area of the driving range and other areas of the course, as well as cleaning the paths to prevent vegetation from invading them.

Several faults in the irrigation system have been repaired, for example the fertiliser injection system as well as one of the five water pumps that had been broken in recent years. The fairways were fertilised last week and will be fertilised again every fortnight to strengthen and accelerate the growth of the grass on the entire playing surface. The greens and tees have also been fertilised and treated.

All the machines at the golf course have been repaired and more machinery has been purchased to meet the needs of the course in the coming weeks.

At the beginning of February, 25 buggies were brought in to be able to provide an adequate service.

In the practice area, the storage room has been updated and a sink for clubs and practice balls has been installed. In addition, new practice balls have been purchased, increasing the number of balls per euro. New signage has been installed for better use of the area. The painting of all the toilet facilities has also been updated.

A licence has been obtained from the Consejería de Medioambiente (Department of the Environment in the regional government) for the control of the rabbit plague: this control consists of live capture and release in other areas of the Region of Murcia as Alhama de Murcia is considered to be an area seriously affected by the overpopulation of these animals. Burrows will be filled in to improve the playing surface.

A sanitary control system is being set up for both irrigation and drinking water. The lakes will be gradually cleaned up.

The entire golf course surface area is to be cordoned off within the next few weeks to inform passers-by, neighbours and anyone not involved in the practice of golf, not to trespass on the private playing area. The prohibition of illegal access to the facilities will be signposted in several languages, and any act of vandalism that takes place at Alhama Signature Golf will be reported to the Guardia Civil. The walking of people, animals, motorbikes, scooters, etc. will not be allowed on the golf course. During the most problematic months there will be a security service and control to try to avoid the vandalism to which we are being subjected. Co-operation is requested in controlling such illegal access, which will be to the benefit of all.

Access to the lakes for the recovery of balls will not be permitted, as this could not only damage the plastic cover that covers them but could also cause a serious accident. As announced at the presentation of the Alhama Nature Resort Project at the Alhama de Murcia Town Hall, the construction of the Club House will start in the second half of this year and in the meantime more works will be carried out on the renovation of the existing pro shop and restaurant.

It is the intention to prepare the course for not only commercial everyday use but also for professional competitions. With the new urban and sporting development planned for the urbanisation, this unique resort in Spain and Europe will be put back on the map.

The opening hours of the pro shop have been extended to give twilight service to those clients who wish to play at that time.

Following requests received through Condado Alhama GS (Golf Society) new memberships are to be created that are more in line with the needs of the golfing community of the course, monthly subscription and weekend subscription are now available at the Pro-shop.

Agreements are also being sought with other golf courses in Spain and Europe, opening up the possibility for members to enjoy other courses under preferential rates.
