![August 2-22 San Javier International Theatre, Music and Dance Festival](https://murciatoday.com/images/articles/24/05/1000058068__11716542966_large.jpg)
Running from August 2 to 22, this year’s line-up features renowned artists and companies including Els Joglars, Rafael Álvarez El Brujo, Victoria Abril, Anabel Alonso, Adrián Lastra and many more.
Experience captivating performances like ‘Forever’ by Kulunka Teatro, winner of multiple awards, and ’14,4’ by Juan Diego Botto and Sergio Peris Mencheta - both nominees for several categories in this year's Max Awards.
Discover fresh talent with new works such as ‘No Me Falte El Aire’ by Alquibla Teatro, and enjoy classics reinvented in contemporary style like the comedies ‘Medusa’ and ‘Las Asambleistas (Las que tropiezan)’ produced by El Terrat and Mérida Classical Theatre Festival.
Witness breathtaking displays of dance from international contemporary company Kor'sia, and immerse yourself in magical experiences brought to you by the Teatro Real.
The festival will feature 14 unique performances in all, three of which will be free outdoor street shows. Here’s what you can expect from the 54th San Javier Theatre, Music and Dance Festival:
August 2
The festival kicks off with a free showing of ‘La Carroza del Real’ in the Parque Almansa in San Javier, a performance full of magic and lyrics which has travelled through Spain and makes its debut in the Region of Murcia.
August 3
The San Javier Winter Theater will open its doors on August 3 to host one of the productions of the year, the mask show ‘Forever’, by Basque company Kalunka and co-produced by the National Dramatic Centre.
The montage, which moves without words, talks about family, lack of communication, love and relationships.
August 4
The auditorium will open on August 4 with the premiere of ‘The most beautiful still’ by Alba Saura, with Alquibla Teatro and directed by Antonio Saura.
The work, which rounds off the ‘Trilogy of the road’, along with ‘My body will be the road’ and ‘I don't miss the air’, travels through the life of a deceased photojournalist and invites us to celebrate that “nothing is ever over.”
August 6
The San Javier Theatre Group, heir to the amateur group that created the Festival 54 years ago, always has its space at the Festival where this year it premieres ‘The Journey of Forgiveness’ on August 6.
Juan Antonio Navas writes and directs the performance based on the play ‘Anna Christie’, by Eugene O’Neill.
August 8
Actress Silvia Abril stars along with five other actresses in the summer comedy, ‘Las Asambleístas (Las que tropiezan)’.
The work is a comedy in verse that openly criticizes the inequality between men and women and the established political system.
August 10
Madrid’s international contemporary dance company Kor’sia arrives at the Parque Almansa auditorium.
The show, called ‘Igra’, will present a selection of pieces of electronic, classical, modern and choral music.
August 13
The Juan Diego Boto-Sergio Peris Mencheta tandem, which debuted with ‘Una noche sin luna’ (Winner of two MET awards), returns with a theatrical piece in which reality and poetry go hand in hand, ‘14, 4’.
On August 13, the Winter Theatre will host this intimate story that follows the adventures of a Moroccan boy who, at the age of nine, explores 14, 4 kilometers that separate the world he left behind and the one he dreamed of arriving at.
August 15
Victoria Abril, Natalia Millán, Adrián Lastra and Ruth Lorenzo are part of the impressive cast of ‘Medusa’.
The production will arrive at the San Javier Festival on August 15, after its premiere at the Mérida Classical Theatre Festival.
August 17
For the first time in Spain, Canadian company ‘People Watching’ brings us ‘Play Dead’, a show which highlights the often ridiculous nature of human behaviour.
August 18
Rafael Álvarez El Brujo, an old friend of the San Javier Fest returns to the Parque Almansa auditorium on August 18 to present his latest show ‘My life in art’, a personal journey with its own stamp through texts by classic authors such as Cervantes, Quevedo, Lope de Vega, Santa Teresa de Jesús and even Shakespeare.
Also on August 18, ‘El Rey que fue’, a review of the life of King Juan Carlos I and the last 50 years in Spain, which moves between the humorous and the tragic.
August 22
The 54th edition of the San Javier International Festival of Theatre, Music and Dance closes with ‘Tiresias’, a stunning show that addresses the myth of Tiresias, punished by the gods to live eternally in the body of a woman, which endowed him with knowledge and sensitivity.
Free open air street shows
August 2
‘La Carroza del Real’ brings a spectacular traveling stage from the Teatro Real of Madrid, which arrives for the first time in the Region of Murcia with a musical extravaganza for the whole family that includes popular arias and duets from some of the best-known operas by Puccini, Mozart and Bizet, among others.
